Two Weeks Later

[]

Violet stepped down the last few steps of the city bus, then scurrying down the sidewalk towards the company building in the distance.

Her thick heels scurried across the pavement, making slight scraping sounds so that she could arrive to work as quickly as possible. Today, the new CEO was to arrive for his first day after Mr. West's departure. When a new official is working for the company, the workers want to do the best that they can to make a good impression. That does not include being tardy, like Violet was this morning.

Finally taking a break from brainstorming excuses to give to the CEO to hopefully help her keep her job, she focused on trying to get to work within the next ten minutes.

Even while she focused on accomplishing this mission on this hot summer day, the busy city folk didn't give her much of an easier time. She tried very hard not to drop the documents she had been clenching to her chest so tightly when someone would bump into her shoulder.

After about seven minutes, she was finally a block away from the building. She had hoped that her hair wasn't sticking to her forehead, now. Once she turned a particular corner, a pedestrian with a large and burly German shepherd gave her a fright. She jumped in surprise, releasing a gasp and opening her arms. Her items fell onto the ground.

At this same moment, a person whom her sudden reaction also surprised had bumped into her. A tall man who was walking across the sidewalk also in the same direction as herself.

The man holding the dog had began to take the dog around her and down the rest of the sidewalk, saying an apology to her. Her eyes followed it, a paralyzing face of terror strung across her face. "Damnit..." The man behind her said, looking down at her and regaining his upward balance. Once she turned around because of her glued stare onto the dog, she was standing directly in front of the man.

"Excuse me, are you alright?" He asked, but was ignored. This was because her eyes didn't even notice him directly, she was still staring behind him and towards the German shepherd who was now crossing the sidewalk away from her.

The man furrowed his eyebrows, looking over his shoulder and at the dog. His face seemed to be trying to connect her frozen state to the dog being responsible. "It's sometimes the largest dogs who are the friendliest." He said in a calm but mature voice. Her eyes finally broke away from the dog and stared at who was speaking to her.

She straightened her arms slowly as her eyes focused on his. She looked from his eyes to his chest a single time, trying to figure out who this was. Dark grey suit, pressed and perfectly tailored. Reeking of satisfyingly beach-y cologne. Green eyes, caramel skin, full lips and a trimmed goatee. She didn't stare too long, though. Her mind was elsewhere. Oh right, work!

"S-sorry, but I have to get to work!" She said in an exasperated tone. He blinked a few times. "Okay, yes, so do I." He said, then looking down. He bent down to pick up her folders. "Well I'm sure it wouldn't matter if you're late, not if you forget your-" He turned them over, realizing the company name that was on it.

"Huh." He said. "Well, at least I won't be the only one late today." He said. Violet seemed confused, but impatient. He held the folders towards her so that she could take them. "We're going to the same place, Ms..." He looked down at her work ID hanging around her neck.
