The next day, the VKs woke up early, thanks to Elina's insistence on being on time for school. Blanc had always taught her that compliance was the first step to getting what you wanted, so she made sure they all arrived promptly.
They found themselves in a classroom for a "Remedial Goodness" class, with Elina sitting alone in the front row while the others sat in the back. Fairy Godmother stood at the front of the room, reading from a list of questions written on the blackboard.
"If someone hands you a crying baby, do you: A, curse it? B, lock it in a tower? C, give it a bottle? Or D, carve out its heart?" she asked, scanning the room.
Evie raised her hand eagerly, "Evie," Fairy Godmother called on her.
Mal, disinterested, was sketching idly while the other three in the back row looked at the board with confusion, not understanding the questions.
"What was the second one?" Evie asked with a sweet smile, causing Mal to glance at her in confusion.
Fairy Godmother looked a bit disappointed but kept her cheerful demeanor. "Oh, okay. Anyone else? Mal?"
"C, give it a bottle," Mal responded without hesitation.
Fairy Godmother beamed. "Correct. Again."
Elina, with a smile, raised her hand next. "Yes, Elina?" Fairy Godmother asked, smiling at her.
"We could also try to change the diapers, right? Or play with the baby?" Elina suggested.
Fairy Godmother nodded proudly. "Exactly!"
Carlos, impressed, whispered to the girls, "You are on fire, girls!"
Mal looked up, offering her advice. "Just pick the one that doesn't sound like any fun."
Carlos and Jay exchanged looks of understanding, nodding, while Evie smiled in realization.
"That makes so much sense," Evie said, smiling. Elina just shook her head, rolling her eyes at her friends.
A girl with short brown hair and a bow rushed over, avoiding eye contact with the VKs, holding some papers in her hands.
"Hello, dear one," Fairy Godmother greeted her daughter.
Jane handed over the documents, glancing nervously at the VKs. "Hi. You need to sign off on early dismissal for the coronation," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
Mal nudged Evie to look up, studying Jane closely, while Elina leaned forward, intrigued.
As she signed the documents, Fairy Godmother introduced her daughter to the class. "Everyone here remembers my daughter, Jane?"
Jane whispered in panic, "Mom, no!"
Fairy Godmother, ignoring her daughter's embarrassment, gently pushed her forward. "It's okay. Jane, this is everyone."
Elina grinned and introduced herself, "Hi, Jane, I'm Elina, but you can call me yours."
Jane squeaked in embarrassment, hiding her face behind her clipboard as she tried to walk away. "Hi. That's okay, don't mind me. As you were."
Fairy Godmother cleared her throat to regain the students' attention and returned to the lesson. "Let's continue. You find a vial of poison. Do you: A, put it in the king's wine? B, paint it on an apple? Or C, turn it over to the proper authorities?"
Jay and Carlos both shot their hands up but immediately started bickering over who got to answer. "Oh! Ooh... get off," Carlos huffed.
Fairy Godmother called on Jay, who smirked as he answered, "C. You turn it over to the proper authorities."
