Mark was seated on a bench at the garden outside his school, his lunch box neatly placed in front of him with his cutleries by the side. Despite the wide array of home-cooked food before him, he couldn't bring himself to eat with the solemn mood he was in.
Frowning, his mind was occupied with thoughts about his future. He stared at his food, a glazed expression in his eyes. The 13 year old boy felt like the world was in his hands, burdened by the thought of what impacts his choices would have.
The thought that he had to move to korea was frightening, although he was half korean, he still lived in Canada for all his life. Passing an audition was never part of his plans, nor was getting into one of the biggest companies in the idol world.
The thought of leaving his family, friends, and Jiyun overwhelmed him with sorrow. He couldn't imagine life without them by his side. Even though his mother was coming along to help him adjust, it still didn't ease his worry of her leaving once everything was settled.
"What's up bark? Why do you look so gloomy?" The 12 year old Jiyun questioned as she slipped into the seat opposite of him. She licked her lips at his food, reaching out to pull his lunch box closer to her. "Are you eating this? Whatever sharing is caring anyways."
Mark couldn't be bothered to stop her, not having enough energy to fight over his food that his mum had made. Besides, he didn't have the appetite to eat anyways. His frown deepened, his head in his hands. "I'm moving to Korea," he broke the news to his best friend.
Jiyun paused her actions, processing his words before letting out a loud, shocked gasp. "Wait what? For real like moving moving there?" She questioned, leaning closer to him, eager to know all the details.
Mark nodded, eyeing the bright grin on her face, confused. "Why are you smiling? You should be sad this means that we would get split up you know? What if we won't stay as best friends anymore..." He trailed off, voicing out his inner turmoil as his chest ached.
"Oh I didn't tell you? I'm moving to korea too!" She exclaimed, excitement bubbling in her chest at the fact that they would still stay together albeit a different country. "You're silly, didn't we promise that we would stay as best friends forever? I never break my promises!"
This time, it was Mark's turn to let out a surprised gasp, sitting up straight in his seat. His eyes sparkling in the light with tentative hope blooming in his chest that maybe he wouldn't be lonely after all. "Wait really? Like you are actually moving moving to Korea?" He clarified.
