The wintry trees stood as ballet dancers, poised to show their grace, still even as the vigorous gusts of wind blew. There is somehow a spark of warmth amidst the cold weather, the contentment in one's heart filling the cold, empty void.

Jiyun had a tender look on her face, her phone resting against her ear as she talked to her mother. For once, she was the one who called. "Hey mum! How are you?" She cheerfully greeted right when the call went through.

"Hello dear, I've been doing well. I'm glad you called! I was just about to call and check in tomorrow or something," her mother spoke, her tone upbeat. "How have you been doing, is school alright? Are you having fun with your friends?"

Jiyun hummed, "It has been great, I don't really want to go back now," she replied, chuckling.

There was a purpose to Jiyun calling her mum. She was growing tired of assuming and searching for contextual clues to her incident, it felt mentally taxing to constantly be thinking about what really happened and what simply didn't.

"Mum?" She paused for a moment, thinking about how she should bring the topic up. "Would you tell me what happened during my car incident?" She ended up deciding to be straightforward.

The silence that came after was heavy, her mother's aversion towards the topic evident. It made her start fidgeting uncomfortably, her finger pulling and letting go of the band around her wrist.

"What is there to say? You just got into a car incident when you were on the way to a cafe, that's all," her mum responded with a dismissive tone before some ruffling was heard from her end. "As long as you aren't hanging around any idols it's fine," she added.

And there it was again, the whole snark remarks about her and idols. Mustering up her courage, Jiyun gave herself a pep talk, wanting to just simply tell her mother the truth.

Yet, she came out short. "Sorry Ji, I got to go, I think I'm getting a headache and I need to sleep early for a meeting tomorrow, bye dear," her mother spoke in almost rocket speed.

Before Jiyun got the chance to reply, the latter hung up. "Oh," she said as she looked at her phone that displayed her homescreen, taken aback. Her lips formed a frown, she could tell it was a sensitive topic for her mother but it just felt unfair that she worded it so vaguely.

It was the same few explanations she got every single time she asked about her incident, and it made her grow frustrated. She understood how painful it is to watch your own daughter go through that, but at the same time she was annoyed.
