"You want to break off our engagement?" A voice speaks loudly to Elizabeth. She had been unconscious for a split second and she hears a strange voice, but oddly familiar. When she looks up she sees a man with silver hair like the color of the moon. But this man looked a lot like how the Emperor looked when he was younger. When Elizabeth looks around her surroundings and sees a familiar setting, and scene, realization hits her like a bomb. This was the past, specifically Maximillian's 18th birthday party. It was a grand party and one where Elizabeth proposed in secret to break off her engagement with him.
And that's what was happening right now. How could she explain to him, that she was from the future. And in the future they were married. All she sees in his eyes now is indifference and coldness towards her, no longer the eyes that looked at her softly. She now notices a difference in how he treated her and how he treats her now. "Lady Elizabeth, I'm asking you the question again. Why do you want to break off the engagement with me?" He asks, snapping her out of her thoughts, crossing his arms against his chest.
She had to speak quick. "Your majesty, I need you to listen to me carefully. I-" that's when she spots Ludovika, in her prime even more beautiful than ever. She was approaching Maximillian with a glass of champagne in her hand. "Your majesty, can we dance together in a little? I've always wanted to dance with your highness." She asks, with a bright smile across her face. The Emperor had not proposed to Ludovika yet, and they haven't gotten into a relationship yet. They will soon, a few weeks after his 18th birthday. So Ludovika is still alive and well, not gone from their lives.
"Yes, I will dance with you. You will be my first partner." He tells her in a gentler tone than what he used with Elizabeth. But there was a slight change, as he glanced at Elizabeth while he was speaking, as if he was expecting her to make an expression or do something. But when she doesn't, he looks away, sending Ludovika off with a smile. He turns back to their conversation at hand, being stoic again. "Continue on with what you were saying." He says.
Elizabeth felt like this might be her salvation, another chance at life. She could change the course of the events and make it so that Ludovika never gets into that accident, that way the Emperor and her can truly be married to each other. Elizabeth won't be married to him anymore. But what is she supposed to tell him? How is she supposed to explain that he must protect Ludovika at all costs and always be with her, when back in the day Elizabeth was always acting jealous of Ludovika. Maximillian would never believe her. Should she tell him the truth?
"Do you think this is some kind of joke to keep me waiting for your answer? I am the crown prince of this land!" He almost loses composure. If Elizabeth didn't answer soon, she might be in big trouble. So she used the same classic lie she used before too. "I am in love with someone else! I love someone else dearly." She blurts out, and he stills. He blinks at her answer, and then shakes his head. Over and over again, as if he wouldn't ever believe it.
"I won't believe you. Thats a lie and I know it. Tell me the truth, lady Elizabeth before I really have to go search your background for the answer." He threatens, with an edge to his tone. He looks like he strongly believes she isn't in love with someone else. Why is that? It doesn't matter now. She had to think of another lie that wouldn't ruin her dignity if she told him. "Fine, I guess I'll tell you the truth. I don't want to be your wife." That looked like it offended him more than anything. "I am from the future. I know everything that happens for the next 20 years. You and I are going to marry each other, because Ludovika had gotten into a carriage accident." He doesn't seem to believe it even more.
