'Is this a dream?' Elizabeth slowly opens her eyes, and sees hazy pictures and setting all around her. It's like she was transported to a white world, where it's only her there.
"Where am I?" She picks herself off the floor, blinking her lashes to rid of the drowsiness that carried with her. She rubbed at her eyes slightly, and then started moving further down the white road before her. There were only petals they fell from now there, just appearing like they were supposed to. They cascaded onto the ground, covering her path and everywhere. And then, she slowly spots a man standing a few feet away. His back was turned to her, as he was on the floor crippled, absently staring at the void in front of him.
"Who is that?" Elizabeth approached the man, and saw that he had silver hair drawn back. She walked a bit forward to get a glimpse of the face, but as she did, horror clouded her mind without warning. She felt as if she was being thrown back, gathering her thoughts as she stared at the man before her. Because that man was Maximilian. And it didn't look like him. He looked lifeless, tortured as he cried while staring at the sky. His cheeks were waiting to be wiped by a hand like Elizabeth's. So she did, she pressed her hand against his cheek, dropping the floor beside him, and wiping the tears off his face in a crescent motion.
"Your highness? Wake up, your highness. What's wrong, where are we? What's happening?" She looks around, glancing at her surroundings once more and spotted a goblet that still contained the liquid. It looked almost like... poison, looking so vile and green. She then looked back to Maximillian. But in the brief moment that she turned her head away, unmistakable horrors had been committed. Maximillian's face was now covered in blood from his mouth that was dripping. His eyes bloodshot, and instead of crying tears, they cried blood. Elizabeth gasped, gasping for breath as her hands shook at his cheek.
Nevertheless she didn't move her hand away. "Your highness!" She cried, shaking his frame. The scene in front of her distorted slightly, and now he lay dead in her arms, lifeless. He lay in her lap, taking his final breath. Elizabeth wasn't even allowed to prepare for what she was about to see, the images moved fast before her. She violently shook him now, "YOUR HIGHNESS!" She cried out loud, so the entire void could hear her. She cried and cried, and no one was there to wipe her tears as she hugged the man in her arms close to her. She was scared, so scared of losing him now. She hugged him tightly, vowing she would always protect him.
And the tears suddenly stopped, as they evaporated into thin air right before her. "Elizabeth, my child." A voice speaks, making her look up. But she didn't know that, when she's looking away, Maximillian would disappear. And she feared, that he might disappear forever and she might never get to see him. Humans are so strange, they get attached unexpectedly, even she didn't know. She shouted, shouted with her entire heart, the voice thrumming against her chest for him. And her body sat up finally, warm from the sweat in her palms, that she wiped on her blanket, the tears were real. She really did cry.
But what wasn't real, was her father standing next to her, staring down at her blankly. She had woken up so horrified, and in her fathers presence too. What might he think? "Father, I-" she starts speaking, her sheaf still heaving from the dream that seemed to be too real for her own imagination. Was this happening in the future, was he about to die? She didn't want that. Why the hell would he do that? She prayed to the gods that he doesn't do anything stupid in the future. "You have to go meet the crown prince immediately today, he has sent word for you." Father informs her, throwing the imperial letter he got just now. This was perfect.
