Elizabeth was on her way in the carriage. This wasn't a vacation. She had planned meticulously to escape and never have to come back to the empire. For that she had to beg her father to let her go to a medical camp for a few days. Because she studies medicine, she could use a medical camp as an excuse to leave the empire for a few days.

Then she will change route, and go in a different direction that her father would never know of. She had no intention of coming back at all either. Elizabeth stared out of the window as the carriage shook on the bumpy road.

She had one more thing to do, escape out of the clutches of the carriage drivers. They would definitely tell her father where she's going. She brought some extra money just in case to bribe them.

Instead of going to the east side where the medical camp was, she would change route and go to the west.

After a few minutes of traveling Elizabeth felt tired and leaned against the window. There was nothing more to think about, soon she'd be living a free and independent life. A smile formed on her face at the thought.

Elizabeth felt her heart pounding fast for some reason, her pulse racing. She kept her eyes closed and calmed herself down.

The carriage instantly toppled over sharply, like something drove straight into it. Elizabeth's heart raced. Beating, beating, and beating, as she flew out of the carriage in the next second falling out into the barren rocky lands full of trees.

She was thrown across out of the carriage and fell straight against a rock. She flinched and screamed in pain, as the rock drove into her back.

It all happened so quickly, she didn't understand what was going on. She gasped for air, as blood oozed out of her mouth and stomach. She hadn't realized but there was a wound on her stomach, wood being driven straight through her body.

Elizabeth struggled to breathe, like the wounds rendered her lungs unable to take in oxygen. The carriage was torn into pieces and put on fire. The fire raged stronger and brighter in her eyes, she failed to focus on them. Her vision made it hard to see as it was masked by a cloak of tears. Tears streamed down her face as she curled her fist in the muddy ground. Her face gathered some mud, but that wasn't important.

She needed to get up and make it somewhere, so they could treat her. Elizabeth stood up and craned her neck around slowly. The rock she hit had really pierced into her terribly. She sobbed, scared, helpless, and alone in the woods.

What the hell even happened? When she looked around, the carriage driver lay motionless in the midst of the broken carriage. He must be dead.

Elizabeth sat crying like a little child who had lost her parents in a fair. The wood stuck in her stomach was piercing her from inside, gathering her attention. She slowly took it out, coating her hands with the blood that came out from the wound.
