"Let me check you," Harvey said after noticing Dan-yin rejecting food and throwing up since the morning.
Exhausted from the nausea, Dan-yin leaned against Harvey while he examined her, hoping for confirmation of her suspicions.
"It's... you're pregnant with two cubs. I can feel both," Harvey said, looking pleased.
"Cubs...? Can we find out who they are now, or do we have to wait?" Dan-yin wondered anxiously, worried about the cubs growing inside her. She had never experienced this before and was concerned about the pain of childbirth.
Sensing her distress, Curtis lifted her onto his lap and rubbed her back to comfort her.
"It's mine..." Harvey said, watching Dan-yin for her reaction.
Dan-yin remained silent, making Harvey think she didn't want a baby with him, which saddened him. In reality, she was just fearful of giving birth.
"Dan-yin... you don't want my cubs?" Harvey's ears drooped in sadness.
"Hm?" Dan-yin replied, confused. When had she said that?
"What? No, no, Harvey! Why would I dislike it?" she clarified, trying to dispel the misunderstanding.
"Then why do you look upset?" Harvey asked.
"I... I'm just afraid to give birth... I'm not ready..." she admitted, recalling the pain associated with childbirth on Earth. How could she do it without professional help?
"What if it hurts?"
Harvey understood her fears and moved closer to Curtis so she could see him better. "Remember, I'm a doctor. I'll make sure you won't feel pain; I'll help you, so the birth is as easy as possible."
"I can hunt colossal beasts for you," Curtis said confident.
"the emerald will help you greatly" Shuu also join the discussion about her concern.
"I can assist too, so you won't feel any pain," Winston chimed in, eager to ensure Dan-yin felt safe.
"But it's dangerous..." Dan-yin remembered colossal beasts were like dinosaurs—large and perilous!
Winston and Curtis chuckled at her concern.
"We can handle it."
"It's no trouble for me," Curtis assured her.
So... confident, huh?(¬⤙¬ )
"I've been waiting for months! When can we mate?" Parker said angrily as Bai kept pushing him away. He had been patient, but her constant refusals—saying she wasn't ready and needed time—were wearing on him.
"I told you I don't want to mate with you right now," Bai said, clearly being unreasonable.
She had been living in the house Parker bought for her, wearing clothes he had given her. He had prepared everything for her, yet she still refused to mate.
"Then when? Tell me, Qingqing! You keep seeing another beastman!" He grabbed her shoulders tightly, knowing she had been seeing another strong beastman against his wishes, which might lead that beastman to think Bai wanted him.
"That's because he's strong! Look at Dan-yin's mates! I don't want her to have all that! She doesn't deserve it!"
Parker was stunned by her words. What did Dan-yin have to do with this? Why did her life matter?
"Let her be. Maybe she deserves it because she's kind and gentle," he said, recalling how soft and small Dan-yin was.
"Oh? So now you also like her?!" Bai's voice rose upon hearing Parker's tone about Dan-yin. She hated how everyone seemed to fall for her.
Bai grabbed Parker's arm and slapped him.
"Qingqing..." His eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't believe she would do that after he saved her and imagined her as his mate. This was too much.
"Listen! I won't mate with dense Leopard like you!" Bai spit the hateful word towards Parker.
Meanwhile, Dan-yin said,
"How about we calm down first?" after a long talk with her husband. She could see their worried expressions—a normal reaction after revealing her origins.
"Are you not worried that I might be lying to you?" she asked, noticing they seemed to believe everything she said and were already planning her future.
"Are you lying?" Winston asked, knowing Dan-yin wouldn't deceive them.
She shook her head.
"We believe you. I believed you the moment I saw you alone in the forest. I had my suspicions but kept quiet." Curtis recalled, remembering how she wore unfamiliar clothes and had soft feet—everything about her was unlike anything he had seen before.
"We're just concerned about you saying you have a... 'period' every month. That's something beastmen have never heard of."
"My biggest concern is the ape king," Winston added, gently rubbing her hair.
She sighed, contemplating the future. If the ape king wouldn't stay still, she might need to prepare to leave Beast City. She looked at Shuu, who was smiling beside her. She had saved one life—could she save more in the future?
What's really going on with Bai? (≖_≖ )
