"It's been a while, little one," a familiar voice said as he approached her slowly from behind.

"I guess it has," Dan-yin replied, looking at him quizzically. He had been distant since they arrived in the city, and she thought he had given up on her.

"How are you? I see you've already mated with the other two," he remarked, a hint of displeasure in his tone at her accepting new mates. He had wanted to be one of them but had held back.

"Yes, I'm doing fine here. Everything is great, Arran," she said with a slight smile.

He longed to possess her, to mark her near her heart like the snake, but knew he must make her fall for him first before they could mate.

'Little one, I need to hold you first before another beast claims that position near your heart' he thought, eyeing her as if she were a rabbit ready to be caught.

"Dan-yin! Look, I brought you some flowers!" Parker called as he ran toward her, a bunch of flowers in hand, followed by Shuu.

Dan-yin couldn't help but giggle at Parker's excitement.

(I found some flowers do bloom in winter! I don't know much about winter since we don't have winter  where I'm from! Sorry if I'm wrong) -author.

"Look at the flowers!" he handed them to her.

"He said you like flowers, so we gathered some," Shuu added, also holding pretty blooms to put in a basket.

"Yes, I love flowers! Sunflowers are my favorite," she smiled reminiscing about the beautiful blooms.

"I've never heard of sunflowers before," Shuu and Parker replied, puzzled by her description. But they were determined to find them to make her happy.

"Mmm, sunflowers are yellow with a circular center..." she explained.

As they conversed, Dan-yin completely forgot about Arran standing nearby. "Dan-yin, I'm hurt that you forgot me," he said, feigning sadness to reclaim her attention.

"Oh, Arran... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"

He smirked when he had her focus again, but noticed the disapproving looks from the other two. "I'm going to be a bit busy... here's a gift for you," he said, pulling out a bracelet and fastening it around her wrist.

It was adorned with pearls, one of which was red.

"For me? But why?" she asked, confused. A gift like this felt like courting, and in this world, pearls were likely quite valuable, especially it coming from the mermaid tribe.

"Think of me when you wear it I'll visit again when I'm less busy." he said, kissing her hand.

"Thank you, Arran." she touch the bracelet he gave her with genuine smile.Arran stepped back, his gaze lingering on the bracelet now adorning her wrist, the red pearl glinting in the light like a secret fire same like Arran eyes. Her smile warmed him more than he expected, and for a moment, he let the disapproving stares wash over him without flinching.

"I'll hold you to that promise," she said, her voice light yet firm, trying to mask the mix of excitement and apprehension that fluttered in her chest.

"What are you truly up to when you disappear?" she asked, curiosity piqued despite the growing distance between them.

"Perhaps I'll tell you next time," he hinted, mischievously. "Or maybe it'll be a clever riddle to ponder in my absence. Keep the bracelet close, and it may guide you to the answers."

The other two exchanged glances that spoke volumes—concern mixed with suspicion, no doubt. But she was captivated, leaning in just a fraction closer. "You're impossible."

"be safe."

She watch Arran left and they went inside as it was getting colder, sitting on the ground with her mate. Harvey and Muir sat behind her, letting her hair down and gently adding the flowers that Shuu and Parker had brought back.

"Winston, come here....the fire is okay now," she said, concerned he wasn't sitting with them and might get cold. It was indeed chilly outside, but the house was warmer than she expected since they worked hard to maintain the heat.

Winston nodded and sat in front of her, amused as the two played with her hair. With winter here, there wasn't much to do in the biting cold.

"Your hair looks pretty," Winston said, smiling."Thanks, Winston," she replied, blushing slightly as she felt the warmth of his gaze. The fire crackled softly nearby, casting a warm glow that flickered across their faces. The flowers intertwined in her hair swayed gently as Harvey and Muir playfully tugged at the strands, creating little braids and twists.

"hopefully the winter end soon and Curtis can come back soon."(っ- ‸ - ς)
