Nothing had changed, that's the first thing Pete noticed when he arrived at the safe house. Everything was still the same as it was three years ago. The second thing he noticed was that Vegas wasn't anywhere in sight. He checked every corner of the house and didn't find his husband.
In the end he found him sitting on the grass at the back of the house, just like the time his hedgehog died.
"Is this where you go every time you disappear?" Pete stood on the grass not too far away from Vegas, seeing if the other would notice his presence and then after a while he spoke.
When Vegas turned to face him, Pete noticed a lot of things about the older. His eyes were red rimmed, like he'd been crying for a while. His hair was disheveled, like he'd pulled on it in frustration. His clothes were all dirty from sitting on the ground and a little wet, like he'd been standing in the biggest downpour of the year. And yet Pete still though he was handsome. His husband was always handsome, no matter what, at least to him.
"What are you doing here? How-?" Vegas rasped out, his voice almost cracking. His throat was probably sore. Pete guessed that he probably tried to scream his lungs out.
"You didn't answer my question." Pete didn't let him changed the topic, he wanted to know.
"Yes, I do. I come here every time, to remind myself of what I've done. So when I come back home, I can appreciate even more what I have right now, what you've given me." Vegas confessed to him.
"Oh, Vegas." Pete sighed. He didn't know what to say at the fact that Vegas frequently visited the house that caused them both enormous pain and grief. He didn't know what he was feeling, was it sadness or anything else? It definitely wasn't disappointment, that he was sure of.
"Were you gonna bail on Kim?" Pete asked after a few moment of silence, the awkward kind where no one knew what to say so they just stared at each other or at the ground.
"I don't really know." Vegas admitted looking at the ground, feeling guilt creeping up on him. Vegas wasn't the kind to bail on family so Pete was surprised that Vegas even thought about it. And it was his fault too.
"You know if you just stayed at home it would have been better. You would've been in a better mood too."
"You don't know that."
"Oh, but I do and I think Achara and the others also agree." Pete said Achara instead of Aspen, to see if Vegas would notice. He hoped that he would notice, just like Aspen did.
"Pete? How did you know where to find me?" Vegas looked at him with hopeful and sad eyes.
"I guessed, you ditched your car not far away from the house. To be honest nothing really changed here. Everything is still the same as it was." Pete answered confidently.
Vegas just stared at Pete still processing what was said. He was frozen in place for a while, when he unfroze he quickly pulled his husband into a tight hug. At first Pete was shocked at the suddenness of it but then hugged him back.
"I'm never letting go of you again." Vegas admitted burying his face into the crock of his neck.
"Please, don't." Pete melted into the hug. He had kind of missed this.
They just stood there hugging each other. Nothing else mettered in that moment but them and Vegas was so happy he could've cried but he'd already cried enough already.
After a while Pete broke the silence, when he remembered something.
"I know I said you shouldn't let go of me but we really need to make it to the wedding. I'm sorry, baby.""But..." Vegas didn't want to let go. His Pete was back in his arms and he really didn't like the idea of letting him go just yet.
"No arguments. It's Kim and Chay's wedding and it's your fault that we're here in the first place." Vegas waited for him to finish the sentence and then kissed him. And then they were back in their own world not caring for anything else.
"I'm sorry." Vegas voiced as they parted.
"It's okay. Are you ready to head back?"
"Mmm, let's go."
They walked to the car hand in hand. And at the car Vegas demanded that Pete handed him the keys but Pete refused.
"Plus you need to get dressed into your suit." Pete concluded his reasoning.
"Now?" Vegas exclaimed with a shocked expression.
"In the car, yes."
"Whose idea was that?"
"Your sisters. She'll probably give you an earful when we get there too." Pete laughed lightly as they got into the car.
"Oh, god." Vegas groaned and then they both laughed. He knew how Aspen could get, very bossy and demanding. She probably got that from Thankhun.
"Pete?"
"Mhm?" Pete looked back at the other.
"I love you." Vegas smiled sweetly at the younger.
"I love you too, baby." Pete mirrored the smile on his husbands face.
In the end Vegas did get dressed in the car on the way to the wedding and no there was indeed no funny business, as Aspen instructed. Vegas did pout a little about it though.
