Jack watched as Alex's silhouette stiffened, the initial fear in his eyes giving way to something darker, something more painful. Alex's voice was laced with bitterness when he finally spoke.

"Oh, it's you," Alex said coldly, his words sharp enough to cut through the thick night air.

Jack flinched at the hostility in Alex's tone, the way his eyes were clouded with disgust and sadness.

Jack knew he couldn't back down now, not after coming all this way. Not when everything was finally becoming clear to him.

"I had to see you," Jack began, his voice trembling slightly. "I... I made a mistake, Alex. A huge mistake. And I realize now... I'm falling for you."

Alex's expression remained stoic, but Jack could see the flicker of emotion in his eyes, a subtle change that gave him the courage to keep going.

"Jack..." Alex said hesitantly.

"I'm falling for Alex Gaskarth!" Jack suddenly yelled, his voice echoing through the quiet neighborhood, the desperation in his tone ringing out into the night.

"Stop yelling," Alex snapped, though there was a crack in his voice. "It's nearly four in the morning, for God's sake."

Alex hated how warmth spread through his whole body over Jack's declaration. Alex wanted to be mad about it- and he was- but fuck he wanted to hear it.

Despite the anger radiating from Alex, Jack could see the way his proclamation had affected him. Alex's hardened exterior was crumbling, even if he was trying with everything in him to keep it intact.

Jack wasn't finished yet, not by a long shot.

"I'm not leaving," Jack declared, sinking down to sit on the driveway, his determination unyielding. His volume not decreasing in the slightest.

Yelling loudly about his feelings about Alex was not in his plan when he came over here. Finding Alex's house in the middle of the night wasn't his plan either... but something about Alex made Jack lose all logic.

"Not until you talk to me. I'll stay here all night if I have to." Jack shouted.

Alex rolled his eyes, his frustration palpable.

"Jack. Shut up." Alex hissed quietly as he could.

Alex shook his head. Trying to hide the smile slowly making its way to his face.

"I'll be right down. I'm not going to keep shouting from the roof like a maniac." Alex muttered.

"Don't move." Alex stated firmly.

Jack watched as Alex climbed back through the window to his bedroom, disappearing from view.

His heart was racing, a mix of fear and hope swirling in his chest. Minutes later, the front door creaked open, and Alex emerged, his footsteps soft as he walked over and slumped down next to Jack on the concrete driveway.

Alex's proximity sent butterflies fluttering wildly in Jack's stomach.

The moonlight bathed Jack's face in a soft glow, making him look even more beautiful, if that was possible. Alex's heart ached, desperate to close the gap between them, to feel Jack's warmth again, but he knew he had to tread carefully.

"Hello," Jack said weakly, the word barely escaping his lips.

Alex didn't look at him, no matter how much he wanted to- but his gaze remained fixed on the ground.

"I came down here like you asked... now- What do you want, Jack?" Alex asked, his voice void of the tenderness Jack was used to.

Jack sighed, the sound heavy with longing and regret. All Jack wanted was for Alex to hold him, like he did in the Bahamas.
