"You were amazing out there, Janu.'' Chandani's voice slices through the tense atmosphere.
We are walking towards the exit. And by we, I mean, Jaan who is walking beside me, Adi and Chandani behind us and Babasa is walking diagonal to us. Janaki's colleagues have retreated back to their office to find material on the man whose DNA was found in Tanya's fingernails along with mine, and my guess is the man is no one other than Rohan Khandelwal because Tanya fucked him after me, almost immediately, but who the fuck knows about her sexual life? She is insatiable when in that area and I give zero fucks about her life much less sexual one.
But I won't deny the fact that since Janaki announced in the courtroom about finding another DNA and the DNA report submitted by Tanya's attorney was forged, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am not as tense as I was when I entered this place but the same can't be said about Janaki. She is nervous. And I know that because I can read her body like the back of my hand. Her shoulders are sapped in one line, her back almost strained against her saree, her fists are clenched and her jaw is set. She is gravely worried about something. I move closer to her taut form and clasp her cold fingers with mine. She shivers upon being caught off-guard and that just worries me more. She looks up at me and I smile reassuringly at her.
"Janu?" Chandani chimes.
Janaki looks over her shoulder at Chandani and dips her face to express her gratitude for the latter's earlier compliment which leads to Chandani flashing a rare smile at Janaki. And my gaze drifts to the steel wall standing beside Chandani, a.k.a Aditya and I find him already looking at her, sorry, entranced by her. My lips twitch and a low sound escapes my throat which makes Janaki look at me questioningly, I mouth 'There is a thin line between hate and love'. She narrows her brows at me and then understanding dawns her. A light smile grazes her lips and my clenching heart stills a bit at her dazzling beauty. A ray of sunshine in the dark of the tunnel, that's what her smile is like. Each passing day, what I feel for this woman is growing tremendously and the best part is I don't even mind falling for her because I know if I slip she would catch me and if she falls I would hold her.
We all slide into our cars and head towards the Rajmahal. I take her hand and softly kiss the back of her hand. "Is something bothering you, princess?" I gently ask.
She looks at me through her peripheral vision and inhales copious intakes of air, "I- ..."
"Yes?" I tenderly try.
"I- I am afraid." she whispers. Luckily, it's only me and her in the car.
I straighten myself, "Name?"
"Name?" she asks confusedly.
"Name of the motherfucker who made you experience fear. Give me a name, Jaan. I will bring him or her to their knees for you." My voice has an unintentional edge to it. Just the thought of anyone harming a hair on her body makes me want to paint the city red.
She chuckles, a light and a soft one at that, a type that makes my heart constrict, "You are a pookie, Raghav. A dangerous pookie."
"A what?" I am unable to comprehend the 'pook' word she just used to describe me.
"Pookie. It means you are cute and lovely. It is a Gen-Z term." she enunciates jokingly.
"But I belong to the millennial generation, love. How will I understand terms like pookie?" I ask, shrugging my shoulders.
