Chapter 22

It is evening time. Spencer untangled himself from Olivia, who was fast asleep, went into the bathroom to freshen up and also get dressed to go meet with Layla. He gently closed the door as he exit the room but ran into Kia and Darnell, who were both cuddled up in the sitting room.

Darnell: Hey bro

Spencer: (he smiles) Hey.

Kia: Going somewhere?

Spencer: Yes, I need to get something at the store. I will be back in no time.

Kia: Oh okay.

Darnell: Help us with pizza when you are coming back.

Kia: Yes, Spencer, please.

Spencer: Sure and Kia, I didn't inform Liv about leaving the house because she was in a deep sleep, so if she wakes up and can't locate me, please inform her.

Kia: Sure.

Spencer left the house with Darnell's car. He got to the place where Layla had asked them to meet. It is an open cafe. Spencer took his sit as he waits for Layla to arrive. After sitting for 10minutes, Layla finally arrived.

Layla: Hey Spencer (she opens her arms to hug to him) Sorry for keeping you waiting, I got caught up with something.

Spencer: It is okay, Layla .

Layla: Have you ordered anything?

Spencer: Yes, I had just water, but if you don't mind, let us get straight into why I am here.

Layla: (sighs) Okay. It is about Nate and Olivia.

Spencer: What is it about Nathan and Olivia? And please don't come here cooking up lies, you will be wasting your time.

Layla: Did Olivia tell you about Nathan professing his love for her?

Spencer: (a bit taken aback but shaked it off) Well, who wouldn't fall in love with her? And if she had not told me, she probably have her reasons. So, Layla, what is the big deal?

Layla: And you think Nathan is going to give up like that? From what I heard, he would do anything to get her.

Spencer: How did you know and why are you telling me?

Layla: I know Nathan too well to know how he reasons. He looks charming and all but Nate always gets what he wants, in this case who he wants. So, if I were you, I will tell Liv to stay away from him.

Spencer: Okay, if that is all, can I go?

Layla: Come on Spencer, this is me making an effort here. The old me would not come here to warn you about Nathan. I just want to be friends but you guys are hellbent on sidelining me. My sister wouldn't even talk to me. I just want to mend our relationship.

Spencer: Layla, the truth is I don't know if I can trust you. Whenever you come around, you are always up to something.

Layla: People change, you know. But if you don't give me the opportunity, you will never know. And I know if both of us are cool, gradually Olivia and I would get there too. I am just tired of the fighting and all. (she gives Spencer a puppy eye) Please.

Spencer: (looks at her and takes a deep sigh) Okay, friends. We are just friends, nothing more.

Layla: (laughs and jumps on him with her arms around his neck) Friends.

While all this was going on, someone was at the corner, clicking photos of them, especially when Layla and Spencer hugged.

Spencer: I need to go now.
