Chapter 38

Baker's residence

Laura, Billy and Layla entered the house.

Laura: Layla, I think you should go freshen up and when you are done, you can come join us in the sitting room. Your dad and I would like to have a discussion with you.

Layla nodded and went straight to her room.

Laura: Billy, I will just fix her something to eat.

Billy: Okay. (he looks at Laura) I know you are sceptical about my decision, but trust me, it looks like the best thing we can do.

Laura: I guess so.

30 minutes later, Layla joined Billy and Laura. They all ate together and when they were done, they moved to the sitting room.

Laura: Layla, you hurt us real bad and what you did to Liv is not something that we can overlook.(she sighs) But, I made a promise to ensure you have the best of everything and I still want to keep to the promise.

Billy: Honestly, everything that has happened in our home, we are equally to blame. We allowed you to get away with a lot of things in the past. But we don't want to repeat that mistake again.

Laura: So, Billy and I have decided that you will go to therapy. You need help Layla and we..

Layla: (in tears) Mum, dad I don't think I will feel comfortable staying with you guys after everything I have done. I will love to move to a different city and start my life all over again. Where nobody knows me.

Laura: Oh! We are just going to tell you that. I spoke to my mum, and she said you can come join her in Chicago, you can find a school to enroll there.

Layla: I actually have somewhere else in mind.

Billy: Oh! Where?

Layla: Atlanta.

Billy: Do you know anybody there?

Layla: Not really, but I have been wanting to go to a particular fashion school over there. So, I think now is the time.

Laura: Oh! That is good. Just give us the details and we would help you settle there.

Layla: Thank you, I actually have a friend I can stay with over there.

Laura: Okay, do I know this friend?

Layla: No, but you can, if you want to?

Billy: Sure, we will love to. We will all go to Atlanta together, so we can meet the person and know where you are staying.

Laura: But we need to let you know you really crossed the line, Layla. I won't pretend like all is well. We still need you to speak to someone.

Layla: I am truly sorry for everything I did. I am very sorry.

Billy: It is okay. You can go to bed now.

Layla: Good night. (she hugged both Billy and Laura and left)

Laura: That went well. I will just have to call my mum and tell her she is moving to ATL instead.

Layla's room

She got inside her room and smiled. Layla picked up her phone and called her dad.

Layla: Hey dad (she smiles)

Mr Keating: How was it? Did they buy it?

Layla: I didn't have to stress. They were planning to ship me away, anyway, so telling them that just made everything easier.
