The young, dark haired girl walked hesitantly down the hall, holding her thick, different colored textbooks, stacked so high they almost covered her face. Late again. She shrugged.
It was hardly a surprise to anyone. She continued on towards her class.
A streak of red flashed across her eyes and she shrieked in surprise. What was going on? The red haze began spreading to where that was all she could see. Her heart beat pounded, frozen with panic.
Then it left as sudden as it had come and the teen was left standing there breathing heavily.
Now the halls seemed deathly still. Without the hustle of students, the building was lifeless and cold. At that moment, one could have heard a pin drop. Her footsteps echoed loudly, no matter how softly she stepped, the heel of her shoes click-clacked on the glassy floor.
She continued in silence, growing anxious. "Hello?" no answer. Seriously? She'd had enough of the creepy silence and she was done! This was involuntary! What's the matter with me? She had been to school over a hundred times why was she so scared today? She sighed, giving up on trying to figure it out, walking towards her classroom. The young teen stroked her hair. It was a soft chestnut color with blonde tips as if it had been dipped in sunshine. She was proud of her thick hair, even if it was unkempt.
Suddenly, the silence was pierced by a loud click from behind. The girl, startled, stiffened. What was that? For a moment, nothing stirred, not even herself. She was frozen like a statue, brown eyes wide. The only sign of life was her pounding heart that thundered in her ears. She hardly dared to breathe, waiting.
Nothing...still nothing... At last, she relaxed a bit, shaking her head to clear it. It was probably just another student. she forced the thought into her head. And facepalmed inwardly at how stupid she was acting.
Before she could make it much further, she heard another click. This time, in front of her. It was a small clock in the wall. Both of its hands were on the 12. It was clear that she was still shaken up from the shock of her sudden panic attack.
she was in a daze of some sort and didn't quite register where she was.
Her breath caught in her throat as a loud ringing filled the lifeless halls, echoing loudly, startling her. Almost at once, the door next to her swung open. She gasped, leaping out of the way, just barely dodging it and fell to her knees, textbook clattering beside her.
Suddenly everything went black and she was in a field, shivering in the cold. An ominous trod of footsteps rushed by and all she could feel was the slight wind that it carried. It was silent for a moment. Too quiet. Then she could see it; a crowd of terrified animals hurdled past her and she felt panic course through her entire being, gripping her chest.
The girl gasped, scrambling out of their path, barely avoiding being trampled by hundreds of feet. She shivered in the corner, pressed against the wall, panting. Watching the huge beasts trample past.
A boy down the hall noticed her.
A brown haired boy who stopped when his blue eyes caught sight of her. "Skyler?" he called incredulously, heading towards the shivering brunette. Her heart was still thumping from what had appeared to be a near-death experience, brown eyes wide from the adrenaline pumping through her veins."J-jason?" she stammered. Her gaze cleared. Jason crouched in front of her, head tilted questioningly. "Skyler? What are you doing?" he exclaimed, a stunned expression on his face. "What happened?" he blinked, laying a hand reassuringly on her shoulder. She didn't move, eyes still wide. "I don't know it was dark and-" she broke off wondering to herself how fast a trip to the mental hospital could approach if she explained. She eyed him nervously. "Nothing. Just trying to hide from you." She forced a smirk.
Jason's face softened, and a grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "You're too funny Skyler. You know you don't have to hide." He scolded gently. But she didn't think he was convinced, half looking at her like she was crazy. Skyler didn't move, curled in the fetal position with her head between her legs. He beckoned her to follow and She sighed.
Skyler frowned, following Jason close behind, still a bit shaken up.
I am not crazy! She tried to convince herself. Why did Jason need to treat her like she was made of glass?
Though she knew exactly why.
Jason Morganson had a major crush on Skyler. Everyone knew it. He was just being protective of her. Her eyes softened. She didn't plan on becoming more than his friend, but it was cute that he got so worked up over her well being. Wait. Was it okay to call a guy cute if he was just a friend?
She ignored the thought.
Skyler didn't want to give him the wrong idea.
It was easy to tell when a guy liked a girl. They would always talk to her a lot. not to mention want to be close to her. The butterflies in their stomach would give them away! Though the same was true for girls.
