Skyler was at last out of the chill. She sighed in relief as the doors closed behind her.
At last she wouldn't have to endure that pain anymore. Speaking of pain... Skyler glanced around the hall searching for the boy she loved. Jason was nowhere to be found. She hadn't seen him since their fight yesterday.
A pang of regret slammed into her gut and she winced. I have to find him... it's my fault that he feels like this. Where is he.... Grief stabbed her heart.
She hated when they fought. It had always turned out alright in the end but they never fought like this.
What if she had ruined their chance. Skyler swallowed at the thought and forced it to the back of her mind. One thing at a time. She just needed to find Jason.

The white lights down the hall flickered on one by one and soon the school was illuminated once again. It was still a dark blue outside but at least here she felt warmer.
Or she would usually, but cold loneliness chilled her to the bone.

Shaking away her despair, she nearly jumped out of her skin when a loud animal zoomed past in a reddish blur. Startled, she spun in disbelief. What was that? Before she could gather her bearings a boy dashed past.
Skyler blinked. "Peter?" Why was Peter here so early? He wasn't on the bus that morning.
"Peter, what is going on?"
Peter circled back, out of breath. "I don't know what has gotten into him!"
Skyler frowned. "Jason? Oh yeah um about that I-"
Peter gave a puzzled look. "Jason? Who said anything about jason? I am talking about Chester!" he exclaimed.
"Who's Chester?"
"My fox!" he began to give chase again.
Skyler panted in her efforts to keep up with him.
"Something's wrong with your fox?"
"Well look at him! Does this seem normal to you?" the boy demanded.
Skyler didn't know what to think. "Um i dont know ive never met a fox before, maybe he is uh hungry."
"He won't come for bacon. It's his favorite."
Skyler bit her lip. "Have you tried talking to him?" she offered unhelpfully.
Peter snorted. "What do you think was the first thing i tried to do?" he rolled his eyes then they clouded. "I don't understand. None of my sentences are going through."
Skyler furrowed her eyebrows. "Peter, have you ate anything recently?"
Peter stared at her blankly so she continued. "Something like an enchanted spaghetti that made it so you can't use your powers?"
Peter glared. "Enchanted spaghetti? Really?" he wasn't impressed. Skyler just shrugged.
Peter sighed. "Not yet, I ate a mushroom sandwich for breakfast yesterday and a glass of milk, nothing special." he calmed down. "Chester, come back here!" he called, slowing to a stop. Chester didn't respond with even a twitch of an ear.
When that didn't work, Peter began using an assortment of barks to get his fox's attention. Nothing.
"I don't understand Skyler...what is happening to me? Are my powers going away? How will i talk to Chester without them?" his breath quickened but Skyler rested a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Peter i'm sure your powers are fine. You just need to find-" her thoughts broke off when something in her pocket bumped against her leg. She reached in, to grin.
"A cookie!" She didn't give him time to protest, shoving the very old treat into his mouth.
He had no choice but to swallow, gagging in the process. "Skyler! What the heck? That was the worst thing I have ever-" he broke off.
Skyler cleared her throat but Peter had frozen to the spot.
"Hello? Peter?"
Peter began barking excitedly. Skyler made a mental note to laugh about this later and watched as Chester skidded to a halt.
She watched the exchange curiously. I wonder what they are saying.

At last Peter returned his attention to the brunette in front of him. "Skyler, it worked! He's talking to me again!" he blinked. "How did you-"
Skyler shrugged. "Just a hunch. It makes sense that in order to use your powers you have to be well fed." she explained. "Yours is more advanced than mine or Jaimey's."
Peter frowned. "Speaking of Jaimey, how is she and why hasn't she come to school?"
Skyler started telling him about the Princeton's camping trip and when she made it to the part about her yelling at Jason, Peter gaped.
"Skyler! Why would you do that? Jason has been nothing but kind to you. He probably feels awful." he scolded gently.
Skyler sighed. "I don't know what came over me! I was just so frustrated. Oh Peter, what have I done?" she buried her face in her hands.
Peter felt sympathy for his best friend and rested a hand on Skyler's shoulder. "Everyone makes mistakes. Jason might not come to school today but you must apologize as soon as you can!" he nudged her.
"If you are going to get married someday-" he teased.
"Peter! I'm still only in 10th grade!" she laughed to hide her blush.
Peter shrugged with a smirk that softened. "What I mean is. Communication is extremely important with any relationship. If you can't talk to each other then it won't last." he finished.
Instead of soothing her, Peter's words worried Skyler even more. Anxiety coursed through her veins. One thing at a time... she reminded her racing mind desperately.
"So we won't last?" She breathed. Peters eyes widened. "I didn't say that! You guys will definitely last! I've seen the bond you two have and it's powerful. I just mean you need to talk through things more." He attempted to calm her racing thoughts and for a moment it actually worked.
"But in order for that to happen, I actually would need to find him." She muttered.
Peter frowned. "that is true, but I'm sure that shouldn't be hard! You go to the same school"
He encouraged.
Skyler nodded hopefully. She really wanted that to be true. Please don't say I've lost my first crush! It hadn't even been a year.
I am really bad at this...
