Peter blinked shyly as Jaimey spoke.
"Tell me again what my power is called." He said softly. Jaimey smiled. "Loqere animalium. You have the power to speak with any animal."
Peter grinned. "What power do you have?" He asked, interested.
Jaimey averted her gaze. "That's not the same." She admitted.
Peter tilted his head letting her continue.
"I have the ability to read a spell book." She offered.
Apparently she expected Peter to think she was pathetic. On the contrary Peter thought she was amazing.
"That's cool! Even I can't do that." He praised.
Jaimey's face lit up.
"Well do you want to see my favorite spell?" She offered. Peter nodded.
Jaimey smiled to herself, grabbing her spell book and flipping through the pages.
"Ignis!" She whisper shouted, holding out her hand.
As Peter stared at her hand, an orange flame roared up in the middle of her palm.
His eyes widened and he felt a newfound respect for the girl in front of him.
"Wow!" He breathed as the flame disappeared.
Jaimey glanced at him.
"This is pretty cool."
Peter blinked. "what?"
Jaimey smiled. "I finally have my own apprentice!" She exclaimed.
Peter felt a stir of emotion in her voice. Being as observant as he was.
"Apprentice?" He knew what she meant but thought that the red-head would like to explain.
"Yes my apprentice! I am kinda like your teacher in a way-"
"A wise old one at that." Peter teased.
"I'm not that old!" She exclaimed.
Not many people got to see this side of him. Jaimey was an exception. He just felt like he could trust her. Besides, they shared a secret.
They exchanged a disappointed glance at the sound of that dreaded bell ring. Lunch was over.
Peter cleared his throat, not wanting to leave. Then the thought crossed his mind. I have to tell Jason and Skyler about my power! They won't believe it!
He hesitated turning to Jaimey. His friend nodded, already knowing what he was thinking. She was basically giving him silent permission to tell his friends.
He smiled. Sometimes it felt like she had cast a mind reading spell on herself.Casting one last glance behind him, Peter streaked into the hallway.
Where are they? He wondered, gaze searching.
There! Jason and Skyler were talking to each other in hushed whispers. He smirked. Lovebirds.
Excitedly, the blonde walked up to them.
"Hey guys you will never guess-" he started.
His friends turned to him. Jason narrowed his eyes and stepped in front of Skyler in a sort of protective manner.
Peter blinked in surprise. Why did Skyler look so disappointed?
"Guys? What's wrong?" He furrowed his brows trying to get closer to them.
They backed away, a look of fear in their eyes.
"Guys it's me! What are you doing?" He pleaded.
Skyler didn't meet his gaze.
"Look Peter, if that is really who you are." Jason glared.
Peter felt hurt welling up inside him. "Of course it's me. What are you talking about?"
Jason blinked coldly. "We have to go." He shouldered Skyler with him through the hall.
Skyler took a sorrowful glance at her friend before Jason hurried her away.Peter was left standing there. Alone as he had always been. The impossible had happened. His friends had abandoned him. This wasn't the first time either. Exactly why he had come to Wintergreen highschool. To have a fresh start. But he could see now that all his efforts were in vain. With a defeated sigh, Peter bowed his head. Feeling as useless as can be.
No one wanted him. No one cared about him. He might as well not even go to school anymore. He obviously wouldn't be missed.Suddenly a touch on his shoulder brought him out of his thoughts. He was numb to it at first but then he turned around. Jaimey smiled at him sympathetically.
"I'm sorry about your friends." She sighed.
Peter felt a tear trickle down his cheek.
"I've been forgotten everywhere I go." He clenched a fist.
Jaimey smiled shyly. "You still have me." She soothed.
Peter blinked. That was true. Even if everyone else was against him, Jaimey would understand.
He forced a smile as Jaimey grabbed his arm.
"Follow me. I want to show you something." She led him out the door excitedly. Peter followed curiously.
Jaimey led him behind the school, footsteps leading into the forest.
"So uh, where are we going exactly?" Peter wondered aloud. Jaimey smiled. "You'll see." She winked.
They pushed their way into the woods, shouldering aside brush and leaves. A yellow flower landed on his head making her laugh.
Peter had no idea what was going on so it was a good thing that she seemed like she knew what she was doing.
At last they stopped. Jaimey's blue eyes shone. Peter blinked, unsure of what she was looking at. He looked behind her and his eyes lit up as well.
