Skyler and Peter made it to his home. They were both exhausted not from the walk but the anxiety rushing through them.
They were both aware of the conversation hanging over their heads but neither brought it up.
Skyler walked in first Peter shut the door behind them.
"Who's this?"
Skyler flinched in surprise when an older woman spoke.
"Oh uh hi ma'am I'm Skyler."
she brushed the wrinkles off her shirt.
"You look awful." The man grunted.
The lady whipped around. "Honey!"
the man shook his head and stood up to greet them.
"Skyler you seem upset about something."
Skyler blinked in surprise. Was she that easy to read? She stood there dumbfounded when bill laughed. "Well young lady you are welcome here anytime." He shook her hand and Skyler nodded graciously. "Thank you sir."
"Call me Bill." His eyes sparkled.
Skyler swallowed. "Sure, Bill."
he nodded, satisfied and turned to his wife.
"Now we've got someone else to keep an eye on our troublemaker. I can officially retire." He sat back In his chair teasingly.
Peter ducked his head in embarrassment.
"Bill!" He protested. But he didn't pay him any mind. "this is my wife Karen. We are very happy to meet another one of peters friends."
Skyler shot him a confused look. "Another?"
He nodded as if to say. "Later."
Skyler shrugged and smiled when Karen spoke at last. "You are welcome to the pantry and the showers. The TV just make yourself at home." She offered kindly.
"Yes ma'am!" Skyler answered politely. Peter was right. A break from the orphanage was just what she needed.
Karen turned to Peter. "You have yet to offer your guest some delicious cookies and milk." She scolded gently.
Peter rolled his eyes and snatched some fresh cookies off the sheet.
"Cookies and milk is overrated." He scoffed.
Skyler was appalled. "What! No way! That's the best way to eat them."
Peter was not convinced but he still poured her a glass anyway.
"Think about it. Cookies are gooey and warm while Milk is cold and soggy. They don't belong together." He slid the tray and cup to her.
Skyler shot him a playful smirk when she dipped the cookie.
"That's disgusting." He snorted.
Skyler shrugged. "you're disgusting." She dipped again.
He shook his head in amusement when she finished. "wow you waste no crumbs."
Skyler tried to hold in a laugh. "Girl ate and left no crumbs." She said in a flamboyant tone.
Peter chuckled at the dumb joke and got to his feet.
"Let's go in another room." He nodded.
Skyler agreed and put her dishes in the sink before following him into the living room.
"Have fun kiddos but not too much fun!" Bill called after them.
Peter's ears burned.
"Sorry about him." He sighed in amazement.
"I don't mind." She grinned. "They were very nice." He brightened. "So what did they mean 'another one of your friends?" She frowned.
"Ah they must be talking about Jaimey." He concluded, taking a bite out of another cookie.
He chewed noiselessly while Skyler loudly slurped her milk. She paused.
"Since when did jaimey visit your house?" She was surprised. Maybe she had underestimated his connection with the other girl.
Peter shrugged, looking slightly embarrassed.
"Ah well she knew I was freaking out about my powers and found me."
Skyler blinked in amazement.
"She really can find us!" That gave her a bit of a weird feeling but she gave a nervous laugh.
Peter sighed and scratched the back of his neck. "You remember that day we were walking to Jason's?" He prompted.
Skyler tilted her head. "Which time?" She tried to recall every single moment they had ventured together but Peter broke into her thoughts.
"I've only been there once Skyler." He smirked. "You must be confusing yourself with all the times you go cuddle up with him on the couch." He teased.
