Peter blinked away sleep, stretching with a yawn. He had stayed up late last night and now he felt sore.
Getting out of the blue bed covers, he made his way to the window.
The sunrise was shining and he had to squint to avoid being blinded.
Birds chirped in the forest outside and he smiled to himself, changing into a blue shirt. Same color as his room was painted.
Pushing through the door, he walked down the stairs into the kitchen.
His foster parents were talking over breakfast.
Peter smiled to himself. "Hey Karen, Bill."He was allowed to call them that because they weren't his real parents.
Karen turned around with a smile.
"Peter, how did you sleep?" Sshe asked, placing a plate of eggs at the table for him.
Peter grinned. "I slept great!", Hhe lied. Truthfully, he hadn't been able to close his eyes with the Shapeless haunting his thoughts, but he didn't want them to worry. Plus, Karen did not like negativity.
With a sigh, he sat in the chair, scooping the food into his mouth with a fork."Thank you ma'am." He smiled when he had eaten enough.
"I think I will pack some more for school,." Hhe rubbed his stomach. "I'm just so hungry."
Karen shrugged, dumping the leftovers into a Ziploc bag. "Okay, here you go."
He was filled with gratitude for his foster parents. They meant well and they cared about him. He had a nice roof over his head, and yet something felt missing. He shrugged it off, grabbing the bag of eggs and heading out the door.
It was pretty early in the morning,.
Tthe sky a darker shade of blue. The bus didn't stop far from here, so he didn't have to wake up too early.
Making his way down the dirt road, Peter stopped in front of a tall tree. A black cat was curled up beneath a bush and he smiled at the creature. He didn't believe the myth about black cats being bad luck, but it seemed like a nervous stray, so he left it alone.
It didn't take long for the disheveled bus to roll into view.
It came to a screeching halt.
Climbing the bus stairs, he took a seat.
Looking out the window, he sighed. Poor Skyler...
He wished that there was something he could do to help her.
He felt kinda selfish. Here Peter was with a home, even if it wasn't his birth family, it was still someone to care about him. Skyler had nothing, no one to buy her a phone or make her fresh eggs.
He opened his eggs and stuck in a fork. He frowned, sealing it back up again. Thinking about Skyler's hard life made Peter lose his appetite. The screech of brakes brought him out of his thoughts. He blinked when he saw who was climbing onto the bus.
"Skyler!" He patted the seat next to him. Skyler had a sleepy smile on her face.
She joined him gratefully. "Hey Peter. Good morning,." Sshe greeted.
Peter nodded. "What did you have for breakfast?" He asked casually. Skyler blinked. "I don't eat much breakfast. I had some raspberries..." she shrugged. Peter gaped. "Wow. So smart,." Hhe retorted. Skyler rolled her eyes. "I'm fine. Really,." Sshe insisted.Peter held out his bag of eggs. Skyler needed it more than he did.
She looked at him skeptically. "Are you sure?" Peter nodded, "Humans kinda need sustenance to survive."
"It's not poisoned is it?" Skyler teased.
Peter laughed slightly. It was the first time Skyler had seen him amused. fFor some reason, that gave her some comfort.
She stared at him for a moment before digging into the food. Peter blinked. Skyler must have been really hungry!Skyler finished and smiled. "Thank you, Peter. I guess I actually really needed that,." Sshe realized, licking her lips. "Been a while since iI've had scrambled eggs."
Peter smirked,. "See? Be smart next time." He folded his arms. Skyler laughed.
Suddenly her gaze turned serious. "Peter, Llast night-"
Peter blinked leaneding forward, focused on her next words. Had she somehow seen the news? Did they have TV in the orphanage?
Skyler looked at him anxiously. "I found Ella, and I tried to warn her, but she didn't understand! What are we going to do?"
She lowered her voice.
Peter frowned. Of course they don't have TV in an orphanage!
"I'm not sure... won't she be at school? Maybe you can warn her then?" Hhe suggested. Skyler relaxed a bit.
Peter pulled out his phone,. "Did you see the news last night?" He swallowed when she shook her head. She wasn't going to like this.
He pulled up the video grimly,.
"Watch this."
Skyler obeyed, head tilted curiously.
