Peter walked down the street, passing tall stalks of corn as he went. The blonde shivered as he did. Corn fields didn't exactly give him a pleasant feeling, for reasons he would rather not say. The teenager flinched at every croak, hoot and growl, understanding their meanings perfectly.
Jaimey was right. He really could hear what the animals were saying, without thinking twice about it. He still couldn't believe that he had this ability all this time without noticing!
Thinking of the redhead made him smile. Jaimey was very smart and witty. Attributes he admired in girls.
As a bonus, her looks weren't too bad either.
Speaking of pretty. There was another sassy girl that he found intriguing. He had only seen her a few times, but each encounter left him curious. He couldn't help wanting to get to know her better. She was one of Skyler's best friends but she hated Peter. Ella Silvey was convinced that Peter had killed her brother. Anthony's death was tragic but he didn't have blood on his hands.

If only Ella could see that. He hoped she would come around so they could be friends. He really wanted to find out her true colors.
Shaking his head in an attempt to clear it, Peter walked farther.
The school was pretty far from his house so he still had miles to walk. Good thing he had woken up early, so he was sure to make it on time. Peter usually rode the bus but his thoughts were too occupied at the moment to sit. Plus, he could use the fresh air.
For what felt like several hours, he traveled on in the dark, moon barely illuminating his path.
He was about ready to collapse with exhaustion when he finally saw it. Two pointed tops peeked out over the hill and his heart skipped a beat. He had made it to Wintergreen high. He had set out on his own to clear his head but it had only made it worse.
The boy forced himself to pick up the pace, dashing across the parking lot and standing at the entrance. Peter tried not to think about how spooky the school looked in the dark. It's pale bricks shone sickly and the interior was completely black.

Taking a deep breath, Peter pushed through the doors and waited for the lights to turn on. When they finally did, he sighed in relief.
Peter found a bench and sat down, enjoying the silence. For a while he put his mind at ease, watching the sun rise through the windows.
Time for class. He got to his feet and made his way down the hall.

He hadn't gone far when he crossed paths with a dark haired young man.
"Excuse me." Peter gulped at the other guy's size. He could crush the blonde if he wanted to!
The other turned his head and frowned at Peter. "You. you're Peter."
Peter blinked. How does he know my name? He thought uneasily. Instead he cleared his throat. "Uh yes. How did you know that?"
The boy grunted. "You are the one who keeps hanging out with my sister." he accused and Peter frowned, not understanding. After a few moments it clicked. "Wait.... is Jaimey your sister?" he demanded and the other nodded. Peter backed up a step. "You're Kash! The one who bullied Skyler for years." He hadn't recognized him in the dim light.
Kash winced at the mention of Skyler's name. "Don't remind me. That girl's insane. Don't get on her bad side or it'll cost you." he turned his head pointedly, displaying the Black and purple bruise around his eye from their previous fight.
Peter raised his eyebrows. "I'll take your word for it." he nodded, backing away. From what he'd heard about him, Kash was the opposite of pleasant. Peter didn't have time to deal with a hostile guy at the moment. Knowing that Kash was Skyler's former bully made him want to punch him even harder in the other eye, but sadly, he resisted.

At last, he made it to class. Peter cringed inwardly. Math... he thought with a groan.
Hopefully his racing mind would make it go by quicker.
As the clock ticked away, he knew that he was sadly mistaken. Math was so boring and he understood none of it! He tried to pay attention to the teacher, as she gave a lecture about what looked like letters and a squiggly line.
He did his best to copy them down in his notebook. "Trinomials? What is this crap?" he whispered to himself. "Matchy matchy?" What cheezy mind decided that term?
Shaking his head, Peter continued to murmur insults under his breath.
Suddenly the room grew still and a hush fell over the students. Peter looked up curiously. What is this about? As his gaze traveled over the sea of students he flinched. The whole class was staring at him!
To make matters worse, the teacher's gaze fixed itself on the grumbling blonde.
"Would you like to repeat yourself Peter?" the teacher gritted her teeth and Peter's jaw dropped. He hadn't anticipated this much attention to be drawn to his insignificant mumbling but Mrs. Tribell did not look the least bit pleased.
