I KNOW IT'S A LOT OF JAVEY, but they're my OTP. Unfortunately, because of that, I have been blinded by their likeness and accidentally gave them healthy communication skills.Don't get me wrong, the two of them would grow into them as their relationship progressed. But Ikeshot managed to get married before them, and I was asking myself why, and I suddenly thought "Hey, you know what those two have done? They've argued with each other, and have been so pissed at each other, they didn't speak for days" and I was like, "Yesssss, they need angst."
So now you get this. Enjoy!!

"Can I talk to you for a second?"
Davey really didn't want to do this. He had papers to grade, he had work to do, but Jack wanted to have a conversation.
It could be quick. It had to be quick. "Yeah."
"I don't want to sound...", Jack searched for the word in his head, unknowingly working down Davey's set timer, and sighing when he couldn't find what he was looking for, "...needy, but I feel like we haven't been spending a lot of time together, and I wanted to know if there was anything I could do to fix that."
Davey took his turn to sigh, putting down his grading pen and turning to Jack with a tired look. "I'm just busy, Jack. I have a lot of work to do."
"I know", Jack promised, tone a bit more condescending than he intended, but this was a conversation to be had. He hadn't seen or truly spoken to Davey in the better half of three weeks, and he couldn't stand the both of them pretending that that was normal. He didn't want that to be normal. "And I respect that, but we haven't talked to each other in weeks, and I-"
"We're talking right now."
Jack stared at his boyfriend quietly, doing his best not to violently scream out what he felt in his chest, a coil of anger winding itself tighter and tighter around his pounding heart. "Fine. Sure. But what I'm telling you is that I'm not getting that on my end."
"So does that negate every conversation we've had previously?" Davey asked petulantly, fingers twitching to pick up his pen again and get back to grading. They could have this conversation any time; he had a deadline to reach.
Davey realized their conversations had been cut shorter as the semester went on, inching closer and closer to the second quarter. He missed Jack like no other, wishing he could go to bed with him and talk before they fell asleep together, and wake up with each other in their arms. He wished they could make dinner together, singing and dancing to whatever song played next on the obscure music app Jack had found one day, and then do it again in the morning. But Davey had work.
Jack's jaw clenched, the pain swirling with his building anger. "What?"
"Well, you're saying we don't talk, so I'm guessing that cancels out every conversation we've had before that."
He knew Davey had been busy, had fallen to sleepless nights and early mornings, but the attitude was unwarranted. He deserved to be spoken to like an adult—to talk it out like adults—not like whatever this was. "Dave, I can't talk to you when you're acting like a kid."
"So, don't", Davey pressed, grabbing his pen and turning back to his work, leaving Jack's assumably temporary anger to simmer a bit more before he took the lid off. "Can we talk about this later? I'm working."
"Yeah, sure, what the fuck." Jack raised his voice before walking away, the lid seeming to have popped off sooner than expected. "I'm trying to talk to you but work comes first. My fucking bad."
