While walking down the hallways, I noticed the light off in the room that Alec was in, indicating he had left. The image stirred a curiosity in me, but I pushed it aside as Tyler and I made our way out to the parking lot.
Getting into his car, I settled in as Tyler connected his phone to the car's bluetooth speaker to play music. To my surprise, a familiar song filled the car, and I couldn't help but express my shock,"You listen to that too?"
Tyler grinned, "Oh yeah, I get a lot of crap for it sometimes, but she's a cool artist."I had to agree, a smile breaking across my face, "I think so too." I replied coldly feeling a moment of connection begining to build between us as our eyes met briefly.
The music continued to play softly in the background as we drove in comfortable silence. I stole occasional glances at Tyler, the streetlights casting a gentle glow on his features. There was something reassuring about the quiet we shared. As we approached my house, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of reluctance as Tyler pulled up in front of my house, and I realized the ride had come to an end. Breaking the silence, he spoke,
"Well, here we are."
I nodded, "Yeah, thanks again for the ride."
"No problem,"
Tyler replied, a warm smile on his face. "I'll see you tomorrow, Lucas.""Yeah, tomorrow," I managed, stepping out of the car. I watched as Tyler drove away into his driveway before entering my house.
The moment I stepped inside, the inviting aroma of dinner wrapped around me like a warm hug. I navigated my way through the now familiar halls, drawn by the scent until I found my parents setting the table in the kitchen.
"Hey,"
I greeted them, and mom looked up, smiling. "You're home," she said, "We were just wondering whether to set a plate for you or not, but since you're here-" dad chimed in.Before he finishes, mom interrupts, "Hey, honey, do me a favor and go get your brother for dinner." I groaned in annoyance, replying with a long dragged out, "Fine."
I grabbed my gym bag and headed upstairs, not bothering to knock on Liam's door before I pushed it open and entered just in time to catch him with a vape pen in his mouth.
As he saw me he jumped startled before hastily hiding it behind his pillow as he erupted into a fit of smoky coughs.
"Do you knock?"
he barked angrily.
"You're vaping?"
disgust filled my words.
"Yeah, and that's none of your business," Liam retorted. "Well, you're making it everyone's business if you're doing it with your freaking door open, Liam," I continued, my frustration evident. "What if mom walked in?"Liam rolled his eyes. "Yeah, well, she didn't."
"Well, she was seconds away from doing it if I hadn't gotten here," I argued."What the hell do you even want?" Liam asked with irritation lacing his tone. "I came to tell you that mom says dinner's ready," I replied coldly,
"Yeah, well, you told me. You can go now."Disgusted, I turned to leave, uttering, "You're a mess."
"Deal with it"
he replied flatly as I left his room.12
