(Lucas)

I barely managed to keep Casey off me during the first two classes the next day before finally settling into my third-Chemistry.
I stepped into the lab and slid into my seat beside Alec.
"Hey," he spoke first as I sat. "Hi," I replied with a smile, getting get my books from my bag.
"Do you still have my notebook?" he asked, bringing the memory of his book back to my mind and more specifically the drawing of me in it.

"Oh yeah,"
I said, pulling his book from my bag and handing it back to him. "I wasn't able to get much from it, though. I hardly had any time to revise anything with basketball and everything else going on right now," I confessed, leaving out the part where I saw the drawing. He looked at me, seeming to understand.
"Yeah, I heard about you and Casey," he paused his face falling before he continued, "congrats," he finished. If only he knew how I actually felt about it all. "Yeah," I muttered before a pause of silence fell upon us.

"I'm happy to help you go over everything at the club meeting today," he offered. I smiled before the dawning realization wiped it from my face.
"I can't," I said, "With the home game tomorrow, coach isn't giving any of us a break today,"

"What about after class-lunch?"
he asked.
"Isn't the art club meeting after school?" I asked curiously. He grinned, "We are the art club. I think it can happen whenever we want," he replied with a smirk that made me chuckle.

I gave it some thought. It was either that or dealing with Casey the whole lunchtime.
"Sure,"
I replied. He smiled, his smile was so warm it was almost hard to believe that this was the same guy who'd been intentionally ignoring me on the first few days of school.

The teacher came in shortly after and began his lesson as per usual, but this time, something felt different; I felt the urge to look at Alec and when I did It felt even harder to look away, his blue gaze was so focused on the lesson as the waves of his dark hair bounced so effortlessly.

I could hardly focus on what Mr. Rennis had to say with the flutters I felt and I was so incredibly grateful for when the bell rang an hour later.

I cast another glance at Alec as he packed his bag while I did the same before we both left for the art room.
As I stepped through, I shut the door behind me in case Casey came looking.

I watched with a mixture of amusement and guilt as Alec clumsily retrieved his notebook and flung his bag onto a wooden chair, mirroring my actions.
His brow furrowed slightly as he flipped open his book. "So, how far did you manage to get?" he asked curiously.

"Not very far, to be honest. Probably not past the first page," I lied, a self-conscious smile playing on my lips. Alec sighed, a flicker of disappointment passing across his features, before we delved into the study material.
Minutes stretched into what felt like an eternity as we went over the contents of the dense notebook, the silence punctuated only by the rustle of pages and the occasional sigh of frustration. Despite our best efforts, the words seemed to blur together, and my mind began to wander.
