The weekend flew by, and once again I was walking toward the school's entrance after Liam had left me there to meet up with his friends. When, Ethan appeared out of nowhere.
"Lucas!"
he called out. "Oh hey," I replied, trying to sound normal.

"What happened, man? I haven't heard from you since the carnival," he said as we stepped into the school.
"Yeah, sorry about that,"
I mumbled. "No, it's cool," he shrugged, but then his eyes lit up. "So, tell me what happened."

"What do you mean?"
I asked. He raised an eyebrow. "What do I mean? You went out with Casey. Spill!"

I forced a smile

I forced a smile. "Nothing happened," I said as we reached my locker.
"Bull," he shot back, not buying it for a second.

"I'm serious, nothing happened-" I began, but my words faltered when the doors swung opened, and in walked Casey, Maya, and Tyler. Casey beelined toward us, and I braced myself for the worst.
"Hey, Lucas," she said, all smiles, before placing a kiss on my cheek, catching me off guard.

"Hey, Casey," I managed to say, still processing the gesture.

"Ethan," she nodded, acknowledging him. He nodded back, a smirk playing on his lips.
"I was looking for you at the carnival," she said, turning back to me.

"Yeah, sorry, I ended up going home,"
I explained.
"Tyler told me," she replied, and I glanced at him in confusion my mind wandering back to the hug we shared on the roof. "He did?" I asked, curiosity piqued.

"Yeah, he said you were feeling sick and had to leave. You poor thing," she said sympathetically. I let out a breath of relief, stealing a look at Tyler, who winked at me from where he was leaning against the lockers with Maya in his arms.

"Yeah, must've caught a bug or something," I said, grateful for the cover story. Casey smiled. "Well, at least you're feeling better now," she said as the bell rang. "I'll see you at lunch," she added, giving me another quick peck on the cheek before walking away.
I turned back to Ethan, who was practically buzzing with excitement.
"That didn't look like nothing to me,"
he teased.
"I have to get to class."
I rolled my eyes. Ethan grinned mischievously. "I swear, Lucas, you're gonna tell me everything one way or another," he called after me as I walked away with a smile.
