You breathe in and out at a steady rate, hoping your heart rate might slow down even just a little bit. Your eyes track every movement happening on both sides of the net. You pay close attention to the ball, knowing where it is at all times. It kept going back and forth in the rally that seemed like it would of on forever. The game had gone so long that some of the players on the team were replaced. You were currently on the court with Suki, Mai, and Kiku. The rest of the players were Mayumi and a second year in the other middle blocker and setter positions.
Everyone on both sides of the net were breathing heavily, all of them exhausted with how long this game has been going on. There have been countless rallies in each set. And, finally, the game was down to it's final set. Both teams being extremely determined to win the next point. Though, if your team were to score this point, it would end the game in your victory. However, the other team was far from giving up. They wanted to win just as much as your team.
You kept running around, even running out of bounds to save the ball. You refused to let it touch the ground, no matter the cost. You received the ball too many times to count, having to run and spike almost immediately after receiving. You watched as the ball kept getting tossed to either you, or one of your friends or one of the middle blockers. You and Mayumi were probably the most exhausted players on the court, since you've been playing for the entire 5 sets of the game.
Mayumi tenses, preparing to get the ball up in the air once more. "Man, the finals are rough. We've never gotten this far before. Ya first years are on another level, especially ya, L/n."
You watch as she leans forward to send the ball to the setter. You begin your running approach. "Over 'ere!"
The setter nods. "Make it a good one, L/n!"
The moment the ball is in front of you, you spike it with everything you've got. You slam it against the blockers' hands, making it fly towards the stands. No one on the opposing team had been able to get it, meaning it landed out of bounds after a one touch from the blockers. The whistle gets blown, making it known that the game has finally come to its conclusion.
You bend over, hands on your knees as you try catching your breath. You look over at your team, seeing them catching their breaths as they looked at you. You could tell that everyone on the team, including the coach, wanted to run and give you a hug. The only thing stopping them was the concern that you would drop from exhaustion. You pant, almost gasping for the air to come back to your lungs.
Mai slings an arm over your shoulders, using her other arm to keep you up. "You're fucking crazy, Y/n. How you managed to stay in the game all this time, with weights on your ankles no less, is beyond me. It's impressive, but almost kind of scary."
You grin at her, still taking deep breaths. "Ya can thank my life time of trainin' with my family."
"I'm so glad I stopped going to that. I think I would die." She chuckles, trying to help you walk over to lineup.
The teams do their final bows to each other, going to shake hands with each other. When you finally get to walk out of the gym, you look behind you and notice the boys' team was still in the middle of their match.
You take hold of Mai's hand, starting to walk towards the stands. "The guys are still playin'. Let's go watch 'em."
Mai nods, walking by your side as you hold hands. "I can't wait to see them! I think we only got the chance to see them play on the first day after our match."
You hum, finding some seats to sit in. "To think, both our volleyball teams would make it to the finals. I just hope the guys win this one."
"Me too."
"Y/n?" Shiro walks over, having seen you join the crowd. "You were really good in your game. Congrats on winning."
"Thanks. Now we have to go to the inter high. I can't wait to face the strongest teams in the country."
He sits on your other side. "Yeah. So, where's the rest of your usual group?"
You look around, noticing that Suki and Kiku weren't there. "Oh, I guess they didn't follow us. They might still be with the rest of the team."
You were too busy with the conversation with Shiro, that you missed the boys win their match. Atsumu looked up, knowing you were there since he saw you and Mai sit down for a split second. When he turns to look at you, he immediately frowns as he sees Shiro talking with you. He clenches his hands into fists, ready to explode with rage.
Osamu takes notice of this, trying to calm his twin down. "If yer so worked up, kiss 'er in front of 'im." He starts dragging the blond twin out of the gym, heading over to where the girls' team was waiting by the entrance of the building.
You look over, noticing the court was empty. "Ah, shit. The guys already left!"
Mai stands up, pulling you with her. "They won, so go congratulate them."
Shiro grabs your left hand, walking with you. "Looks like both volleyball teams are going to take part in the inter high."
The 3 of you arrive at the entrance of the building, seeing the 2 teams together.
Atsumu spots you, seeing your hand connected to Shiro's. Out of anger, he walks up to Kiku and grabs her. He pulls her into a passionate looking kiss, making sure that you see it.
You freeze in place as you watch him kiss someone that isn't you. You felt a pain in your chest, tears welling in your eyes. You look away, trying to keep the tears from coming out. "Let's go, Mai."
Mai gives you a pitying look, noticing the tears in your eyes. She gently wraps an arm around you and leads you out of the building, no one else joining you. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
You shake your head. "No. I just wanna get as far away from that jerk as possible."
"Let's go somewhere. I have an idea to take your mind off of this." She walks with you away from the stadium, silently cursing Atsumu for his actions. She was gonna make him pay for this, and boy did she have ideas to make him suffer.
