(A special child)

I took off work so that we could go to the adoption agency hopefully we can meet Lashawn, after breakfast we told Washington we're going to see another boy, he asked will we bring him home so he can play with him, Sean told him not yet. Ms. Parker said it's time for Washington to go to school and after she drops him off she'll be going to the store and pick up a few things, Sean told her not to buy Washington all that junk food, she said I eat more of it than the baby does, and by the way I need to push back on it, it looks like it's going straight to my behind.

We said bye to Washington and be good, we hugged him, and they left, I read the file on Lashawn again, it said page three of four, I looked through the papers I didn't see a page four, I only found pages one through three. I asked Sean did he read a page four in the file he said no, check my briefcase, I went upstairs and checked no page four, we'll just ask about it when we get to the agency, bae called me and said we better get going, I could tell that Sean was excited to meet Lashawn.

I went downstairs and we left, bae kept asking he wonders what Lashawn is like, the file didn't mention anything about his parents, I said maybe that's what's on page four we'll just ask about that. We arrived at the agency and spoke with a Mrs. Kellon, she told us that Lashawn has been with them since he was born, I asked her why no one's adopted him if he came to them as a newborn, don't most people want a newborn baby.

Yes, they do Mr. Kincaid, but Lashawn came to us under complicated circumstances, see Lashawn was born with HIV, he's undetectable, and he takes meds two times a day, he's a very healthy boy. The Kincaid's looked at each other, I told them most people don't know how to deal with that and are afraid, but there's no reason for them to be, Mr. Sean said they'd like to talk alone, I told them sure, tell me would they like to meet Lashawn, he said after they talk, I left my office.

Sasha, I don't care about what's going on with Lashawn he needs a family to love and take care of him, bae asked me am I sure, I told him as sure as he was when he found out about me and now, we're married. Sasha said let's meet Lashawn and ask Mrs. Kellon more about Lashawn's parents, I told him I don't care what she says about them I already want him.

Sean, do you want him because he's positive, he said that and the child deserves love just like any other child, he's told me how he had dreams that no one wanted him when he found out he was positive imagine how a child feels. Mrs. Kellon came back and asked would we like to meet Lashawn now, I told her we have questions about Lashawn's family, she said the absent parents gave their consent for Lashawn to be adopted so there's no worries there.

She said the mother was raped, and finding out not only was she pregnant but her rapist was positive, but she couldn't abort the child, so she had him and gave him up. I said we'd like to see him, Sean said yes, we do, she made a call, and the boy was brought into the room, I could see in Sean's eyes he really wants him, and he hasn't even talked with him.

Mrs. Kellon told Lashawn to say hello to us, we shook his hand, Sean asked him does he know how old he is, the boy said four he sounded so cute, Sean kept staring at him, I just hope we can get him bae will be so disappointed if we don't. I guess I should've found out if they let people with HIV adopt a child, we qualified for everything else we have a child already in the home, and money to take care of him, and a lot more.

We talked to the boy for a while and he was taken back out to play, Mrs. Kellon asked us what we thought of Lashawn, Sean said he could take him home right now, she said we'd have to fill out some paperwork to start the process.

Sean told her he's HIV positive he's undetectable and he takes good care of himself, we already have a son, he wanted her to know that.

Mr. Kincaid I'm glad you shared that, which means you have a better understanding of what Lashawn is going through, HIV will not keep you from adopting a child, I don't think that will keep you two from being good parents.

She did say they would require me to list my status in our adoption profile, she told us this information should only go in the home study if at all. As a part of the process, my doctor must sign off on an ability to parent the child through adulthood, and once the doctor signs off we can go from there, sense the absent parents aren't involved this process will go faster now let's start the process.

I couldn't believe what she just told us that we have a chance to adopt Lashawn, she did tell us if the process goes through, we're not required by law to disclose the child's medical status to his school, our church if we belong to one, or to anyone. She thinks that when the child is of age, he can share whom he wants to share his status with, since it's his story.

We started the paperwork, and she said now they'll arrange home visits and refer us to an adoption coordinator, we can do that today if we like, we said yes, let's get this started and I asked could we start spending time with Lashawn, she said that can be arranged.

We met with the coordinator, a Ms. Blackwell, she didn't seem as friendly as Mrs. Kellon she was all business, but if that helps us get the boy, we'll do what she tells us, we had to get her a letter from Sasha's job and a list of friends and family she could talk to, and Washingtons school to talk with them. And she'd like to talk with him as well, she did say she'd be coming for a home visit soon, we'll receive a notice in the mail we thanked her and left.

I kissed Sasha and thanked him for thinking of this, he said whatever I want I get, I asked him what he wants, bae said for me to be happy with our growing family, and he'll confess, something about Lashawn touched his heart.

I told him since he's off work today let's get things started, and get that letter from his job and other things we need; we damn sure need to talk to Ms. Parker we don't know when Ms. Blackwell will show up at the house and we know how Ms. Parker can be. Bae said if she messes up us getting that boy she's out on her ass.

We got the letter from his job, and I got a letter from my doctor, we'll tell the family what's going on later, I told Sasha I'll drive us around now, we went to the Alexander hotel, bae asked why are we here, I told him I got us a room sense Ms. Parker is at the house, I wanted to make love to my man and celebrate. Bae said he likes how I think, and we went in and got checked in, we got to our room and made love, I told Sasha I love him so much and Washington will have a brother and us another son.

Sasha told me to pray hard if this is what I want, and put it in God's hands, I told him we'll both pray that we get that boy. After we made love, we got cleaned up and headed home, when we got there Ms. Parker asked us how things went, we told her we found a boy close to Washingtons age, she said good a boy needs siblings. She asked us where else have we been it shouldn't have taken us all morning to do that, I told her we had to stop off and take care of other things to make sure we get that boy, she said really funny she thought she saw our car pulling into the Alexander hotel.

Sasha told her we had lunch there, she said sure we did, and she left the room, Sasha said let's wait on telling her about what's going on with Lashawn, we'll tell our family's first, I told him if she has a problem with Lashawn, she can look for another job, I mean it.

I told Sean to calm down I don't think she's as ignorant as that, to take it out on a child for the sins of the father, bae said he forgot about that, we can never say anything to Ms. Parker about Lashawn's parents. We went upstairs and talked some more about Lashawn James.
