chocolate and sprinkles

As I sit here, typing away at my work, I can hear the excitement bubbling down the hall. Our four-year-old daughter, Mia, is practically bouncing off the walls at the thought of having nanny Emily here with her. I glance over at Adrien, who's busy adjusting the collar of his perfectly tailored shirt—another day in the life of a model—and then we both smile at the familiar sounds of our lively household.

Mia's voice rings through the air, a mixture of affection and mischief. "Emmy! Can we play tea party? I wanna be the princess!"

"Of course, Mia!" Emily responds brightly. "What kind of tea should we have today?"

"Strawberry! No, no! Chocolate! With sprinkles!" Mia insists, her little hands flailing with excitement.

Just then, I hear a high-pitched giggle followed by an indignant protest. "No, Emmy! No chocolate! Chawie wants strawberry!" Charlie, our energetic two-year-old, adds his two cents, his tiny fists clenched in determination.

"Chawie, it's my tea party!" Mia answers back, her voice a mix of authority and sweetness. "You can have your own party after mine!"

Chandler, the other half of the twin duo, chimes in with a mischievous tone, "Mia, you're bossy! I want chocolate too!"

"Channy, stop being rude! Oscar the Grouch eats chocolate, and he's not nice!" Mia retaliates unintentionally referencing her favorite TV show.

Emily laughs, her voice always warm and soothing. "Okay, how about we have strawberry for Mia and chocolate for Charlie and Chandler? Everyone can have their favorite!"

"But Chawie doesn't like chocolate!" Charlie counters fiercely, crossing his arms in a classic toddler fashion.

"That's not the point, Charlie," I mumble under my breath, getting a bit anxious as I hear Emily trying to negotiate peace. I know how my little ones can become stubborn when their minds are set.

Mia giggles, her face lighting up. "See, Emmy? Chawie just wants to be special!"

"Yes, but every tea party needs a bit of variety, just like in real life!" Emily quips, keeping her patience strong.

I can't help but peek down the hallway, seeing the scene unfold. Emily has a knack for this; it's not easy managing the personalities of three lively children, especially at such young ages. I watch as Mia leans closer to Emily, whispering conspiratorially about her imaginary tea party, while Charlie and Chandler continue their protest.

"Channy, stop being rude to Emmy! She's our friend!" Mia says, pulling on her sister's arm.

"Sowwy, Emmy," Chandler mumbles, still pouting. "Chawie just wants to have fun!"

"Fun is all we want too, darling!" Emily reassures them, "Let's find a way for all of us to have fun, shall we?"

"Mama! Dada! Can 'ou come down and play?" Mia suddenly calls out, her voice rising with kid-like hope.

Adrien and I share a knowing look—how could we resist when we hear that sweet little voice? I stand up, pulling Adrien along with me. "Alright, party time!"

As we join the chaotic yet charming scene, Mia bounces up to us, "Look, Papa! I'm a princess! And this is my royal tea party!"

"Your Majesty!" Adrien playfully bows, his model's charm sweeping Mia off her feet. She squeals with delight.

"Don't forget about Chawie and Channy!" I remind, kneeling beside our twins. "What do you two want to be?"

"I wanna be a dragon!" Charlie beams, momentarily forgetting his discontent.

"And I wanna be a fairy!" Chandler adds, her earlier rudeness vanishing like the sparkles they often pretend to sprinkle around.

"Perfect! A dragon, a fairy, and a princess!" I say, feeling a wave of amusement wash over me as the camaraderie of our little family blossoms.

"Emmy, you can be the magical unicorn!" Mia declares, her imagination taking flight.

"Oh! I love being a unicorn! I'll sprinkle magic sparkles all around!" Emily plays along, perfectly at home in the delightful chaos.

As laughter fills our home, I can't help but feel a sense of warmth and gratitude. Today, as always, is a whirlwind of excitement and love, and despite their little disagreements, we are one happy family.
