The house is a whirlwind of activity, and as I stand in the kitchen, the chaos is almost overwhelming. Mia is coloring at the table, her crayons scattered like confetti. Charlie and Chandler are racing back and forth, their little giggles echoing through the house, and Luke, my sweet one-month-old, is cooing in his bassinet—until he isn't.
"Ugh, not again," I mutter as I hear the telltale squelch.
"Mommy!" Mia calls out, looking up from her drawing. "Can I help with the baby?"
"Sure, sweetheart," I say, hurriedly wiping my hands on a dish towel. "But be gentle. He's delicate!"
As I carefully pick up Luke, he looks up at me with wide, innocent eyes. I change his diaper as quickly as I can, but just as I get it off, he spits up all over my shirt.
"Seriously, Luke?" I laugh helplessly.
"Uh-oh!" Mia giggles, clapping her hands.
"Not funny, kiddo!"
While I'm cleaning up the mess, I can hear the twins still squealing in the living room. I peek over to see them bouncing off the walls.
"Charlie! Chandler! Slow down! You're going to break something!" I call out.
"Can we have snacks?!" Charlie yells, skidding to a halt.
"Alright, snacks first. Then we'll tackle dinner," I say, trying to corral their energy.
"Yay!" They cheer, and I rummage through the cupboard, pulling out goldfish crackers and sliced apples.
Just as I'm pouring snacks into bowls, I hear the front door open.
"Hey, everybody!" Adrien's voice carries through the house, tinged with exhaustion.
"Daddy!" the twins scream in unison, darting toward him.
Mia trots over, holding out a crayon. "Look what I drew, Daddy!"
"I can't wait to see it, sweetie!" Adrien replies, tousling her hair before scooping up Charlie and Chandler into his arms.
"Did you have a long day?" I ask, as I set a bowl of crackers in front of Luke, who's already reaching for them.
"Oh, you know, just the usual," he replies with a shake of his head, a playful grin on his face as he holds a giggling Chandler. "But I'm here now. What can I do to help?"
"Could you watch the kids for a second while I start dinner?" I ask, stretching my arms.
"Of course! Come on, kids, let's have a dance party!"
The twins squeal again, and I smile at the happy chaos, but soon the kitchen draws me back in. The smell of sautéing garlic fills the air, and I focus on slicing vegetables when I feel Adrien's presence behind me.
"Still cooking up a storm, I see," he whispers, leaning in close, his voice low.
"Just trying to survive over here," I chuckle, stirring the pasta.
"You're amazing, you know that?" His breath tickles my ear, and I can hardly concentrate on the onions. "And incredibly sexy, even with baby spit on your shirt."
"Adrien!" I exclaim, blushing.
He chuckles softly, continuing in that teasing whisper, "You should see what you do to me, even with four crazy kids running around."
"Seriously? Right now?"
"Oh, absolutely. I can't help it."
His hands slide around me, wrapping my waist, and I feel my heart race despite the distractions around us.
"Mama!" Mia comes over, holding her drawing. "Look!"
"Wait a second, baby, I'm—"
"Just keep stirring baby," Adrien interjects smoothly, his smile devilish as he leans in to nuzzle my neck.
"A-hem!" I hear Mia trying to get my attention again, indignant.
"Okay, okay!" I laugh, turning to the side to look at Mia's masterpiece of scribbles. "Wow, that's beautiful, Mia!"
"Isn't it?" she beams proudly.
I can't help but grin back, caught between the charming chaos of my kids and the allure of my husband. As much as I'm mentally exhausted, I know we're in this together.
And somehow, despite the madness, we're making it work.
"Dinner should be almost ready, let's just get through this," I say, ruffling Mia's hair.
"Together?" Adrien murmurs, planting a slow kiss on my cheek, his gaze sparkling with mischief.
"Together," I echo, a smile breaking through the exhaustion.
"Alright, dance party first, dinner later!" he calls out, turning back to the kids racing him to the living room.
In the midst of crayons, snacks, and baby giggles, a warm rush of love sweeps over me. Maybe tonight won't be so crazy after all.
