hyeongjun's mom entered his son's room, smiling once she saw him working on his school project, the guitar on his lap and his notes in front of him on the bed.

"hyeongjun, do you have a minute?" she asked - it was serious.

the boy's smile immediately faded, putting the guitar aside. "sure, of course. what is it?"

his mother sat down next to him, looking like something bothered her. then she took his hand.

"your father and i decided that it'd be better if we get a divorce," she explained and hyeongjun's heart dropped.

it was time that it happened, his parents truly just arguing whenever they interacted. but it still came out of a sudden.

her thumb caressed hyeongjun's back of his hand, giving him an encouraging smile. "after small consideration, we decided that you should stay with me.

and... we're going back to indonesia."

hyeongjun stopped breathing. "we- we can't!" he removed his mom's hand in shock, the woman's eyes widening.

"but why, honey? you didn't want to leave indonesia, too! you'll see all your friends again!"

that was true. hyeongjun indeed missed his friends. but he found better ones here. and also...

"mom, i have a boyfriend here!" he accidentally yelled, starting to grow upset. "i don't want to leave him!"

this time his mother seemed like she was the one to stop breathing. "who is it?" she asked, sounding neutral. was it a good or a bad reaction?

hyeongjun realised what he just said. and was immediately ashamed. should he tell her the truth?

"jooyeon..."

to be exact, they never specified if they're a couple. but hyeongjun loved jooyeon. and jooyeon loved hyeongjun. wasn't that basically a couple thing to tell each other that?

she looked disappointed. never in his seventeen years of living did hyeongjun see his mom look at him that way. and it broke his heart.

"you're lying.." she just mumbled, but hyeongjun shook his head, standing up. "i'm gay, mom. and i love jooyeon."

she stood up, as well, putting her hands on his shoulders. her gaze was icy, making him feel so small despite being taller.

"then stay with your dad - you're not my son anymore."

[...]

"and how does it feel to finally breathe fresh air?" hyeongjun asked with a smile as he picked up jooyeon, who was already waiting.

jooyeon was finally able to go home, yet his parents were working so they weren't able to pick him up.

receiving a call from jooyeon, hyeongjun immediately drove to the clinic, using his father's motorbike.

it was luck his license was also valid in the new country, because taking the public transport would take too long.

"it's amazing" jooyeon smiled, securing the helmet on his head as he sat down behind hyeongjun, his hands hesitantly wrapping around the elder's waist.

hyeongjun smiled, trying not to seem too sad, his mother's words still replaying in his head.

you're not my son anymore.

hearing that after having a pretty good relationship with her broke him. he cried in the bathroom after that, storming out of his room with tears running down his face.

then he received jooyeon's call. what a great way to distract himself.

starting the motor, hyeongjun drove him home. enjoying the cold wind hitting their skins, jooyeon closed his eyes, resting his head against the elder's back.

it felt good, it felt right. jooyeon still couldn't believe that someone like hyeongjun actually fell in love with someone like him.

especially because they knew each other since childhood. what are the odds? maybe it was still just a prank?

jooyeon quickly decided that he was overthinking. he felt hyeongjun's warm body, and it made him forget all the doubt.

[...]

arriving at the house, they instantly went to jooyeon's room. the younger started sorting out the clothes he wore and the ones he did not wear, meanwhile hyeongjun told him about the interaction with his mom.

"and you told her..?" the younger asked once hyeongjun came to the part where he told his mother no.

the boy nodded, biting the inner side of his cheek. "but hey, i'm not moving! she said that i'm not family anymore."

despite the bubbly voice, jooyeon figured that it must've hurt the elder a lot.

sitting down, he put his hand on hyeongjun's thigh. "i'm proud you told her" he smiled. "what would i do without you?"

hyeongjun smiled, trying to fight against the upcoming tears as he leaned his head on jooyeon's shoulder.

grabbing the hand on his hand, he intertwined their fingers. "same... didn't feel like returning there, too. i'd feel so.. incomplete?"

jooyeon couldn't help but feel his face heating up. "is that so?" kissing the crown of hyeongjun's head, the elder looked up.

his eyes sparkled in the prettiest way, the younger couldn't help but make him sit up, so he could take a better look at them.

there was something so addictive about hyeongjun's enlarged pupils when he looked at him, or the the faint blush on the tip of his nose.

and his slightly pursed lips, looking so soft, waiting to be kissed. was this the right time?

they didn't kiss the day hyeongjun confessed, both were satisfied with that, it would've been too fast-paced.

but there? putting his hand on hyeongjun's cheek, jooyeon shimmied closer, their legs touching.

hyeongjun was the one to ask the question. "can i kiss you?" and who was jooyeon to say no? how could he ever say no to hyeongjun?

their breaths mingled, and hyeongjun could feel the warmth radiating from jooyeon's skin. no audible reaction.

for a moment, time seemed to pause, the world outside fading into the background.

until eventually, jooyeon's lips met hyeongjun's in a soft, tentative kiss, barely a brush of skin against skin.

the touch was gentle, a quiet question and a quiet answer all at once. the younger's eyes fluttered closed as he leaned into the kiss, his free hand finding its way to jooyeon's shoulder.

the kiss lingered, sweet and unhurried, a tender moment shared between them, with no desire to rush.

hyeongjun was all jooyeon could think about in that moment. he asked himself how he was able to win over hyeongjun's heart.

then he asked himself why he was asking himself that. it doesn't matter why the elder loved him. it mattered that he did.

the kiss they shared was the biggest evidence. jooyeon knew that if they were in a silly cartoon, badly-animated hearts would fly around them and fireworks would ignite in the background.

hyeongjun was the one for him.

once they finally pulled back, they stayed close, foreheads touching as they breathed together, neither wanting to break the spell.

yet jooyeon was the first to break the silence, chuckling. "was that okay?" he whispered.

hyeongjun nodded, a shy smile spreading across his face. "yeah" he whispered back, his voice steady despite the fluttering in his chest.

"more than okay."
