It started with a simple envelope, left carelessly on the doorstep of my family’s estate. I didn’t think much of it at first a prank, perhaps. People like us, rich and in the public eye, often became targets of petty schemes.
But when I opened the envelope and read the note inside, I paused.
“I kidnapped your friend.”
My friend? I don’t have friends. Not really. I almost laughed at the absurdity of it, but something nagged at the back of my mind. Friend? Who could they mean?
I brushed it off. It wasn’t worth my time. Probably just someone looking for attention.
The next night, another envelope arrived. This time, my pulse quickened as I unfolded the paper. The words stared back at me, cold and direct.
“I thought you and Sai are friends. Should I kill him already?”
Sai. Of course, it had to be him. He was the only person who had gotten close enough to me recently close enough to be mistaken as a friend.
But who would do this? And why?
For the first time in years, I felt a flicker of genuine panic. My hands tightened around the paper, crumpling it slightly as I re-read the message. This wasn’t just a prank. Someone had Sai, and they were threatening his life.
I had to do something.
