The sound of my phone cut through the silence, breaking my concentration. I ignored it at first, but the ringing persisted. Annoyed, I glanced at the screen.
It was Sai.
Part of me wanted to ignore the call. I was so close to doing what I needed to do. But something about the repeated calls, the desperation behind them, made me hesitate.
With a sigh, I answered.
“Kazuki-san…” Sai’s voice was weak, breathless. “I… I can’t breathe.”
My heart skipped a beat. The anger I had felt moments before was quickly replaced by something else concern, worry, fear.
“We’re still at the agency,” Sai continued, his words barely audible. “Yuno is with me… but he doesn’t know what to do… The hospital is too far…”
I didn’t wait for him to finish. I slammed the car into gear and sped off, racing back to the agency as fast as I could. My mind was spinning, a thousand thoughts flooding my head, but one thing was clear: I needed to get to Sai. Now.
