Days passed, and still, there was no sign of Sai. I kept receiving notes, each one more taunting than the last. Whoever was behind this, they knew how to push my buttons, how to get under my skin.
And it was working.
But then, finally, a break. I received a tip an anonymous message that led me to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. It was the kind of place where no one would think to look, tucked away in the shadows.
I arrived at night, the air thick with tension. My instincts were on high alert, every sense heightened as I approached the entrance. This was it. Sai had to be inside.
I moved carefully, silently, making my way through the dark corridors of the building. The place reeked of decay, the smell of dampness and neglect clinging to the walls.
And then, I saw him.
Sai was slumped against the wall, unconscious but alive. Relief washed over me, but it was short-lived. There was something else a presence in the room that I couldn’t see but could feel. Someone was watching me.
I moved quickly, pulling Sai into my arms and carrying him out of the warehouse. As I left, I noticed a small note pinned to the wall near the door.
“Your welcome, Kazuki.”
I didn’t recognize the handwriting, and I had no idea who had written it. But one thing was clear: this wasn’t over.
