A month passed, and Sai was still in a coma. I visited him every day, sitting by his bedside, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest. It was the only thing that reassured me that he was still alive, still fighting.

Yuno had returned to the agency. He was back to work, though he was quieter than usual, more distant. The incident had taken its toll on him, too, though he rarely talked about it.

He told the authorities everything he knew, but it wasn’t much. The investigation dragged on, and with each passing day, my guilt deepened.

I had tried to stay away from Sai in the past, convincing myself that he was nothing more than a nuisance. But now, seeing him like this, I realized how wrong I had been. Sai didn’t deserve this. He was innocent, kind, even, and yet, he was the one suffering because of me.

Every time I visited the hospital, I found myself apologizing to him, even though he couldn’t hear me. I whispered my regrets, my sorrow, hoping that somehow, on some level, he could understand.
