Gaurav sat in the staff room, his focus entirely on the stack of assignments in front of him.
He was reviewing the essays on Trait Theory that he had assigned to his students, but his mind kept drifting to one particular assignment.
He couldn't help the slight smile that tugged at his lips as he reached for the file he had been looking forward to all day.
The name on the cover, written in neat, careful handwriting, read Nilanjana Rajvansh.
His fingers gently caressed the letters as if her name alone held some unspoken connection.
Just as he was about to open the file, his quiet moment was interrupted by the arrival of a colleague, Ramanuj Parihar.
Gaurav's smile faded instantly.
Ramanuj, the Physics professor, had a reputation for being a jerk, a man who somehow slipped through the cracks to land a teaching position.
His lack of respect for both students and colleagues made Gaurav's blood boil on more than one occasion.
He was notorious for his crude remarks, and students dreaded his classes.
Ramanuj plopped down beside Gaurav with an air of unwelcome familiarity. "Oh, Professor Shinde, how are you today?" he asked in his usual sickly tone.
Gaurav barely glanced at him, giving a curt nod before turning his attention back to Nilanjana's assignment.
He hoped Ramanuj would take the hint and leave, but instead, the next words out of the man's mouth made Gaurav's hand still on the page, his calm demeanor quickly unraveling.
"I've heard you have quite the beauty in your class," Ramanuj said, his tone laced with sleaze.
Gaurav's jaw tightened as he looked up, his eyes narrowing at the man. "Mr. Parihar, I teach my students. I don't ogle them."
Ramanuj let out a smirk, completely missing—or perhaps ignoring—the warning in Gaurav's voice. "Nilanjana Rajvansh, right? That's her name?"
Gaurav's head snapped up in a split second, his eyes locking onto Ramanuj's with a fury that simmered just below the surface.
"What do you mean?" Gaurav demanded, his voice dangerously low.
Ramanuj leaned back in his chair, seemingly oblivious to the storm brewing in front of him. "She's quite a catch, isn't she? You know, once they're out of college, you can—how should I put this—take advantage of the situation."
The insinuation was clear, and it sent a wave of cold anger through Gaurav.
Without a second thought, he slammed his hand down on the table, the sound echoing through the staff room like a thunderclap.
Ramanuj flinched, his smug expression faltering as he met Gaurav's glare.
"Dare you, Ramanuj," Gaurav spat, his voice filled with a cold, controlled rage. "If you want your eyes to stay in your body, keep them off my students, and out of my classroom. I won't hesitate to gouge them out if you don't."
Ramanuj's confidence wavered, and he gulped, trying to mask his fear under a forced chuckle.
But Gaurav wasn't done.
"And one more thing," Gaurav continued, his tone sharp enough to cut through steel. "If you ever speak about any girl in such a filthy manner again, I'll make sure you're left in no condition to speak at all."
