"Already packing?" mom asked as she noticed my bedroom already empty, having only a few things left on the nightstand and desk.

"Yeah, I want to be ready for tomorrow." I said, sitting on the edge of the bed as she came inside my room, sitting next to me.

"I feel like I barely spent some time with you." she continued, playing gently with my hair.

"I know, but it felt so good to be back here even for a few days." I told her, hugging her quickly.

"My little girl grew up so fast." she murmured, taking a few moments to admire me.

"Even though I'm 24, it doesn't feel like it." I said, making her laugh for a bit.

"I only realized when you left home and got your own life, and I couldn't be more proud of you." mom said, with tears in her eyes.

"You know, I felt like I disappointed you." I murmured, looking down.

"Just because something wasn't working, it doesn't mean that something else wouldn't. Besides, you're not alone there, you have a part of your home with you. And you could never disappoint us." she continued, holding my hand.

"That is true, too. But sometimes I wish things were different." I said, with a tone of regret in my voice.

"What do you mean, sweetheart?" mom asked, confused.

"Sounds childish, but I wish things were easier sometimes." I said, vaguely.

"I remember when you were just a kid, nothing would scare you, and that scared me. And I still see that in you, the way you handled everything as an adult, I know that little fearless girl is still giving you that power." she said, smiling at me reassuringly.

"Well, I can't have my cake and eat it too, right?" I said, laughing ironically.

"I promise you, there are so many things that are waiting for you, and I have so much trust in you that you will go amazing, no matter what. I don't know anyone as hardworking as you. You should trust yourself too." mom insisted, reminding me of some things.

"You will always be my role model, you know that, right?" I said, hugging her closely, as she did the same, when we took a moment for ourselves.

"There's nothing to be scared of. Everything's for a reason, some things are meant to happen, and others are meant to learn from them. Keep your head up every time and don't look back, and have no regrets." she said, making me feel safer.

"I learned from the best to do my best." I said, smiling at her.

"Now, enough with it. Aren't you happy to see your boyfriend again?" mom said, changing the subject.

"You have no idea how much I miss him!" I said, looking at the pictures I had with him in my room.

"Well, tomorrow is the big day!" mom said, with a different tone in her voice.

"What?" I asked quickly, confused.

"Aren't you going back to Barcelona?" she said, playing it cool.

"Yeah, you're right." I said, brushing it off, as I felt dumb for thinking something else.
