I took another leave from the office the next day. Logan wanted to see me at his penthouse after lunch. I made an excuse to Pol and asked her to come over so I could leave.
Mom didn't acknowledge me when I informed her I was leaving for an important errand. When I reached Logan's penthouse, he and his lawyer were already waiting for me in his study.
I couldn't believe I had been there thrice in a mere period of nine days.
The lawyer went over the contract terms that specifically consisted of me agreeing to any demand of Logan for the period of the contract. When I asked about the contract period, the lawyer replied it was indefinite.
My throat went dry at his words. I would have to agree to any demand by Logan indefinitely. My stomach churned at the thought, and bile rose in my throat. That wasn't a contract but a death warrant.
"I can't agree to sign this until you specify a specific period in the contract," I pursed my lips in a tight line, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I don't remember you mentioned any terms when you knelt before me and begged to save your son. As far as I remember, your words were, 'I would do anything you want. Please save my son," Logan glared at me with a clenched jaw.
I felt someone gutted me with a knife. My words came back to haunt me, along with the visual of me almost naked, kneeling in between Logan's legs and begging him to save Aiden.
Agreeing to anything he wanted didn't look that gut-wrenching at that moment when I was desperate to save my son. When he was safe and alive at home, the reality dawned on me and made my palms sweat.
"I… I… didn't mean this," I traced my tongue on my dry lips as I stuttered.
"Mark, what does 'I will do anything you want' mean in your dictionary?" Logan addressed his lawyer with a wicked glint in his eyes.
He reveled in my despair, and it made my heart sink. What kind of monster did Logan become? How could he be so heartless?
The lawyer stayed silent in response while Logan continued, "I didn't call you here to get your opinion about the contract terms. You are only here to sign it. If it were not for Mark insisting I read you the terms before signing, you would never have known what was in the contract. Now, shut the fuck up and sign these papers," Logan pushed a pile of stapled papers toward me.
I stared at him in disbelief. Wouldn't he even let me read the whole thing? Who knew what other terms he drafted in it and how worse they could be? I regretted objecting to the terms of the contract. I would need to sign it without knowing what he added further.
"I am not signing it until I read it completely," I defied in a weak voice.
"Out," Logan roared at his lawyer, shooting up to his feet behind the desk, and he left without wasting a second as if it was the last place he wanted to be present.
Logan swept off everything from his desk with a jerk, and I screamed, terrified, jumping to my feet as the items hit the floor and shattered into a million pieces, including his laptop.
Logan rounded that desk in a few angry strides, and before I could even take a step, he was onto me. Wrapping his hand around my throat, he pulled my face close. His fingers were like a vise around my throat, squeezing the life out of me.
"You will sign this, and you will do it now," he growled in my face.
Terror clogged my throat as I trembled in his hold. I had never witnessed him that furious before. His smoldering gaze was so intense that I feared bursting into flames.
