Christina

Logan's hand fisted on his hand as he fought to control his gaze slipping below my face. Dropping to my knees, between his legs, I placed my hands on his thighs. Dreading, he might refuse my touch, but to my relief, Logan stayed still, watching me like a hawk.

His silence gave me the required strength, and I reached for his belt and undid the buckle. I was about to pull the zipper in his pants down when he placed his hand over mine.

"I don't want this," he said, pulling my hands away from his crotch.

"Logan, you are my only hope. Please save my son. I am ready to do anything you want," I begged, almost naked and on my knees.

That was the most vulnerable I had ever been in front of anyone, and Logan still didn't appear to be affected in any way.

"Why don't you ask your Uncle for help?"

"George doesn't have such a huge amount of money," I blurted out in panic, afraid he was unwilling to help me.

"I am talking about the Duke of Clairings," Logan replied with a clenched jaw.

"Uncle Edward?"

"Yes, your Uncle Edward, the Duke of Clairings."

"Uncle Edward and his family severed all ties with me when I came to live with Mom. They will never help to save my illegitimate son," I said, rubbing my palms against each other.

Logan stroked his forehead, immersed in deep thoughts. He looked reluctant to help me, that was why he asked me all these questions.

"What about your inheritance?"

"I gave it up before I came to the US," I replied.

Logan pursed his lips tightly, staring at me with his sharp gaze. I squirmed under his scrutiny, but Logan's gaze didn't falter. I had no idea what he tried to read on my face.

"Get dressed," he spoke after what felt like an eternity.

I grabbed his hands in bewilderment, "Please, Logan, I have no one to go to other than you. Please don't turn me away empty-handed," I begged.

"I will need to make a few calls. Today is Saturday, and the bank is closed. I will have to arrange money from some other source," his reply made my heart expand with such joy that I was afraid it might explode.

"Will you help me save Aiden?" I asked in disbelief.

I never thought Logan would be willing to help me save Aiden. Even more shocking, he hadn't taken me up on my offer.

Was there some humanity left inside his cold heart?

"Yes, Christina, I will try to arrange the money by tonight. It's not easy, given that it's the weekend, but I will try my best," Logan assured me, lifting my dress from the floor and passing it to me.

"You don't want anything in return?" I asked, perplexed.

Logan chuckled darkly, "For a moment, you got me there, Christina. Making me believe you were as pure and naive as you act, but I know better than to fall for your act."

I bit my lip, trying to stop myself from saying something that might offend him.

"You know what I want, Christina. After I help you return your son, you will agree to my proposition and any other demand I deem fit. Is it understood?" He reached out and pulled my lip with his thumb, freeing it from between my teeth.

I nodded, took the dress from his other hand, and immediately slipped it over my head. Zipping it up, I stood up from the floor and pulled the hem of my dress down to cover my thighs.
