Christina

"Who…. who are you?" I asked, bewildered.

"I didn't call you to give introductions," he spat.

"Please don't hurt my boy. I would do anything you say," I blurted out immediately.

Pol and George were alerted by my words. They were watching me with worry dripping from their faces.

"If you don't deliver five million dollars to the address I texted you by tonight, your son's dead body will turn up in the dumpster near your house," the man's cold voice sent a chill down my spine.

Five million dollars!!!!!!!

My throat went dry, and my tongue got tied to my throat. From where would I get five million dollars?

"I don't have this much money," I cried in panic.

"We know who you are, Ms. Williams, so drop your act of being broke," the man hissed.

I could feel the color drain from my face. He knew about my true identity. How? No one knew I was a Duke's daughter apart from my family.

"I left everything behind. I don't have anything," I cried in hysterics.

"Do you think we fucking care?"

"But…. but… why Aiden?" I couldn't help asking.

"If you go to the police, your son is dead," he disconnected the call with these last words, ignoring my question.

I pulled the cell from my ear and called the number again. The call didn't get through as he turned off the cell phone.

"What happened, Christina?" George inquired, watching me redial the number.

I knew he wouldn't turn on his phone anytime soon, but I couldn't help trying again. Who was that man, and why had they kidnapped Aiden? Why did they demand five million from me when they would have known I was broke?

Had they planned this? But they wouldn't ask for ransom. They would want me to go to them.

"Christina, for God's sake, tell me whose call it was?" George bellowed.

"It was….. it was the kidnapper, he..he.  demanded fi…ve million dollars in exchange for Aiden," my voice broke as I tried to fight my tears.

"Five million?" George stared at me in shock.

I nodded at him, checking my cell, and noticed an SMS. I opened my inbox and found a message from an unknown number with an address in the suburbs.

"What are we going to do?" Pol's face turned pale, and she barely held herself from breaking down.

"I am so sorry, Christina, it's all my fault," George's voice was full of guilt.

"No," I interrupted, "it isn't your fault George. It could have been anyone. They know who I am, and that is why they kidnapped Aiden. Knowing I would pay the ransom to save him. The only problem is, I don't own a single penny of my father's money," my voice got heavy from tears.

"I should have been careful," George's face was covered with grief, and he looked a decade older in a matter of a few minutes.

"Please, George, don't blame yourself. You and Pol have always been there for me when I needed you," I held his hand in mine.

"We should think about how to save Aiden," Pol reminded.

"We should go to the police for help," George asserted.
