Christina
"Your bills are cleared," the receptionist informed me while studying my expressions.
I gaped at her in confusion, unsure if I heard her correctly.
"Someone paid the amount," she repeated.
"Who?"
She typed something on her keyboard and answered, "Someone named De La Roche."
Logan????
Had Logan paid the hospital bill? I didn't expect him to do it. He had already spent five million to save Aiden, and now he had paid the hospital bill. How much more would I be indebted to Logan?
The more important question was how he would make me repay all the money. Desperate to save Aiden, I had agreed to be his mistress. Now, the thought made my stomach churn.
I couldn't back off. I would have to keep my word. Aiden was safe, and that was all I wanted. If I had to pay for my son's safety with my body, then so be it.
Mom was overjoyed to see us when we returned home that night. Pol had filled her in about what had happened. We all had dinner together, and after I put Aiden to bed and returned to the living room, the three of them were waiting with a long list of questions.
"Did you find out who did it?" George asked.
I shook my head. Logan had been unreachable the whole day, and I had no idea what happened between him and the kidnappers.
"Who gave you five million, Christina?" Mom questioned, watching me intently.
I took a deep breath and prepared myself to answer all their questions. When I told them everything from the day Logan returned to my life, they stared at my face, stunned.
"Are you insane?" Pol asked aghast.
"I didn't have any choice left," I replied.
"So you agreed to become his mistress?" Concern etched George's face
"What was I supposed to do?"
"You could have told him the truth," Mom passed me an accusing look.
"He is blinded by hate and isn't ready to listen to anything," I crossed my arms on my chest.
An awkward silence fell over the room. George was the first to break it, "That punk needs a good dressing down from me."
"No," I cried out.
"Christina, someone needs to knock some sense into the guy," Pol objected.
"I said no," I asserted, "None of you will say anything to Logan. He is in a relationship and is expecting a child. I don't want to complicate things for him."
"All the more reasons that he should know the truth about why you left him," Mom insisted.
"Please, Mom," I pleaded, "I am just asking this one thing from you. Let this go. Logan doesn't need to know anything."
"For God's sake, Christina. He wants you to be his mistress," George threw his arms up in frustration.
"And that is the only reason Aiden is alive and back with us," I gritted.
I regretted telling my family the truth, but what else could I have told them? They would learn about Logan one way or another, and it would kill them if they would have found it from someone else.
"Please, I beg you all. For Aiden's sake," my voice broke at the end from the lump in my throat.
"I don't even know what to say," Mom murmured in a tired voice.
