Charlie's POV
Eventually, our day at the beach comes to a close. Elle's mom was nice enough to give Nick and I a ride back home.
"Charlie, am I dropping you off at yours?" She asks.
"Um, can you take me to Nick's instead?" Nick looks over at me and smiles, giving my hand a squeeze.
"Of course, sweetheart." After a little bit, Nick and I get dropped off at his house. We go inside and I take my shoes off.
"I'm gonna make some toast. Want some?" He asks.
"Sure." I say softly. He kisses my cheek before walking into the kitchen. The voices in my head have quieted down a lot, making it a little easier to actually want to eat something, but a lot of it is because of how comfortable I feel with Nick. Eventually, he comes back holding two plates, each with two pieces of toast. He hands me one and I smile. We head up to his room and suddenly, I get really cold, so Nick hands me one of his jumpers to put on.
We sit in comfortable silence as we both eat. Nick eats his food fairly quickly while I've only taken a few bites.
"You don't mind if I finish packing, do you?" He asks.
"It's so like you to not be packed the day before you leave for three weeks."
"Oi!" I giggle as he starts rummaging through his stuff, throwing basically any outfit at his suitcase, not caring if they're folded or neat. I take another small bite of the toast as I watch him chaotically go around his room and pack anything he can.
I look over and see Nellie somehow peacefully sleeping on the bed as Nick's causing a ruckus. "How is it that I'm leaving for Menorca tomorrow and I still can't find my goggles?" Nick complains. He comes back over to me and flops down next to me on the bed. "I bet David took them. He's always stealing my stuff." Nick says.
"I still can't believe you'll be gone for three whole weeks." Nick turns on his side so he's now facing me.
"What? Are you gonna miss me?" He teases.
"Oh, maybe just a tiny bit." Nick pokes my cheek.
"Only a tiny bit?" He questions.
"Okay, fine, maybe a lot." He wraps his arms around me, taking me by surprise.
"I'm gonna miss you too, Char." He says, burying his head in my stomach. He lifts his head up and gives my neck a quick kiss before getting up. "I'm gonna take a shower. I can still feel sand literally everywhere. We can watch a movie when I get out, though."
"As long as it's anything but a Marvel movie." I say as he walks toward his door.
"Right, I forgot, you have no taste."
"Hey!" I say as he chuckles and leaves the room. I lay back on his bed and continue to take small bites of the toast. I look up at his wall and see all the pictures that Nick has put on over the summer. I start to think back to a conversation I had with Tara in Paris.
"I think Nick's so in love with you, it's a bit unbearable to watch sometimes."
Maybe I just have to take the chance. I have to tell him and even if he doesn't say it back, at least he'll know how I feel. I look at his door and think about how I might tell him. Maybe I'll wait until he's out of the shower or while we're watching the movie, or-
As I'm lost in thought, I hear my phone ding. I pull it out of my pocket and look down to see a message from my mom.
Mom: Charlie, it's past 9. We agreed on a 9pm curfew.
