Charlie's POV

When I wake up the next morning, I feel a sense of dread wash over me. This is the first day that Nick and I will be apart. I know, I sound dramatic, probably because I am, but nonetheless, it's still hard knowing I won't see him until our first day of school.

School, great.

I get up and head to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I avoid my gaze in the mirror and try my best to brush as fast as I can. When I return to my room, I pick up my phone to text Nick.

Charlie: hi

Charlie: i love you

Charlie: a lot

I wait for Nick's reply, which shockingly doesn't take that long.

Nick: HI I love you too

Nick: I LOVE YOU!!! I like saying it

Nick: I miss you so much already

Charlie: are you even at the airport yet lol

Nick: ...no

After reading that message, I smile and lock my phone. I lay there, looking up at the ceiling. I know if I go downstairs, I'll just get yelled at by my mom for being late last night. She always thinks it's Nick's fault, but if anything, it's always mine.

The night of the prom, I was super late coming home because Nick and I were talking. She yelled and blamed Nick, almost banning me from seeing him again, but I convinced her that my phone died and I lost track of time. She went a little easier on me after that, but still, it doesn't change that she still gets mad anytime I try to explain something to her.

I'm ripped out of my thoughts when my phone dings with a new message from Nick. It's a picture. I open it and see him posing with two young children.

Nick: My little cousins say hi!!!

Charlie: omg

Charlie: can i come to menorca with you pls

Nick: Plane leaves in 90 minutes!

Nick: Can you run that fast??

Charlie: i could try

Charlie: i could fit in your suitcase

I stare at my phone and wait for Nick to reply, but after about ten minutes, I figure he's already on the plane flying over a thousand miles away.

He's gonna leave and not come back.

You're never gonna be good enough for him.

Stop trying...

I grab my book bag and head downstairs to do some of my summer homework. I can't focus in my room, so I figured going into the living room would help. As much as I want to avoid that fight with my mom, I need to start this summer homework, or it'll never get done. As I'm working, my phone chimes.

Nick: We've landed!!!

Charlie: come back 😭

Nick: 😂

Nick: Are you going to talk to your parents about the eating thing?

Charlie: i'll try xx

Nick: ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Charlie: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

A few hours go by without a response from Nick. I start to get worried, so I decide to send him a few messages.

Charlie: have you arrived yet?
