Charlie's POV

When I wake up to my alarm the next morning, my head is pounding. I can't tell if it's from the lack of food I've had or the fact that after dinner, all I did was go up to my room and cry myself to sleep.

Maybe it's both.

Honestly, I don't care though. Nick is back and I get to see him today.

I grab my uniform and get dressed, putting on as many layers as I can. I start with my school shirt, put my sweater on over it, and then my schoool jacket. I wish there was more I could put on, but it's not like I'm allowed to. I can't let Nick know how bad it's gotten.

He'll leave you.

Failure.

Such a disappointment.

I quickly grab my book back and head downstairs. I see both of my parents in the kitchen while Tori grabs herself a bowl of cereal.

"Having breakfast?" She asks me as I walk over to the cabinet to grab a mug for some tea.

"I'm not hungry. Tea will do just fine." I say, sounding normal, but my head is an absolute mess this morning.

"Are you sure-"

"Really Tori, I'm fine. Please just leave it." I whisper, shutting the cabinet after finding my mug. I start to make my tea as Tori goes over and sits down at the dining table.

"Are you planning on going 'round Nick's today?" My dad asks as I sit down with my tea.

"If he wants me to. I don't want to intrude when he's just gotten back." I say, taking a small sip of my drink.

"Well let us know, please?" My mom says. I just nod my head before pulling my phone out of my pocket. I haven't gotten a message from Nick since last night when I told him that I couldn't wait to see him at school.

Don't text him.

You're a burden to him and you know it.

"Charlie?" I hear Tori's voice, snapping me out of thought. "We're gonna be late, come on." I glance back at my phone and see the time. I quickly dump out the rest of my tea and grab my bag before following Tori out the door.

As Tori and I are walking to the bus stop, I have my headphones in, but I have one out in case she says anything. Sure enough, she does. "You know I'm here for you, right?"

"I know." I say as we get to the bus stop. I sit down, already feeling completely exhausted from this day and it's barely started.

When the bus pulls up, I put my other earbud in and climb on with Tori behind me. I take my seat and so does Tori. I stare out the window as the bus leaves the station and heads for school.
The only thing I'm looking forward to is seeing Nick.

Nick's POV

I enter the school gate, feeling excited. Most of that is because I get to see Charlie again, but I also just missed hanging out with my friends.

Ever since my talk with my aunt, though, I haven't stopped worrying about Charlie. The sound of his voice quivering on the phone still rings loudly in my ears.

I want to help him.

I want to make him better.

But I can't.

When I walk into the school, Sai, Christian, and Otis are standing around the lockers chatting.

"Look who it is!" Christian says happily as they notice me approaching.
