There is a man.

In my house.

I am all alone. In pitch black night.

My heart starts pounding so hard and terror amplifies in my entire body.

My hands shake too much that I could barely hold my phone.

Every breath I take is shallow, like I can't get enough air. There's a man in the house, and I'm all alone. My legs feel like jelly, and I don't think I can even run if I tried. I should fight, I know I should, but I can't. I can't move. My body isn't listening to me.

I need to hide.

That's all I can think of.

Hide, and maybe he won't find me.

I stumble to the kitchen, almost tripping over my own feet, and I hide myself behind the kitchen counter trying to make no noise.

My phone is dying—of course it's dying now, of all times—my first instinct is to call my dad and that's exactly what I do. I try calling my dad, but the call won't go through. "The number you're trying to reach is out of network area." I hear the automated voice, and I feel the panic rise like a wave ready to crash over me.

Tears start welling down my face, as now I hear loud footsteps clearly.

I feel helpless.

I press the screen frantically, and before I realize what I've done, the phone starts ringing. It's Atharv sir. Oh god, it's Atharv sir.

Few time ago, when I told Aarohi how Atharv sir gave me his private contact number, she teasingly set his number on my first speed dial.

Before I could comprehend the call starts ringing and to my surprise, sir picks up the call in the first ring.

I don't even think—I just start crying, the words pouring out of me in a desperate rush. "Save me, sir, please save me." My scared yet huffled voice comes out.

"There's someone in the house, sir please help me please. I'm going to die sir, please help me." My voice cracks, and I can barely get the words out. I'm shaking so hard, I can't think straight, and all I can do is beg him to save me.

I continue crying, and then sir responds in the next breath, "Evara listen to me, I am coming. I am coming to save you."

Hearing these words, release a feeling of relief in my body.

Sir continues to speak, but before he could say more, my phone switches off.

Damn battery.

I pull myself closer, and try to control my tears.

Few minutes pass and now I hear his faint footsteps climbing the stairs.

Alright he is going up, I need to do something.
