When Jade slipped into the detention classroom, she noticed that no one else was there at the moment. She sat quietly at one of the desks in the back, sighing softly thinking. After a moment she pulled the camera box she had, deciding she could try to work on getting any old videos on them removed. She clicked the button to turn the camera on, examining it before pausing. She rubbed her thumb over the side, noticing it was covered in faded stickers. She paused, before setting it on the desk, standing carefully backing away looking at it before freezing. If she was right, it was the same camera she'd used for her diary for years. She paused before sitting back down, carefully clicking the buttons, about to play one of the videos, holding it at arm's length, when she looked up as Cameron and another girl came in. She quickly turned the camera off, slipping it back into her backpack quietly, zipping it shut.
Cameron noticed her and smiled, waving at Jade as he came in, grinning and closing the door, "Small detention class again, it's good to know you didn't get more detention today so far Jade! This is Areli, she's a frequent in detention."
Areli laughs and shakes her head, standing at about 5'7". She had sharply angled hot-pink hair, medium-toned skin, one purple, and one yellow eye, a decently fit build had what Jade would have assumed to be vitiligo, other than the colors were constantly changing, going from pink to purple to green and so on, with sparkles floating on them... she also had probably been dress coded because of how revealing her outfit was. She had a sheer long-sleeved poofy blue shirt on, with solid tight white cuffs, white around her waist leaving her belly button exposed, and two solid strips of blue fabric with a cloud design connected at the belt and going over her shoulders connecting at the back. She had mismatched pants on too, that dropped and covered her feet completely, being purple with golden stars.
Areli laughed and went over, offering her hand to Jade, "Nice ta meetcha Mate! Ya new here? Never seen ya lassie here before!" she said grinning at her, speaking in with a bit of an accent.
Jade watched her uncertainly but took her hand, Areli shaking it firmly, almost feeling like she'd just pulled Jade's shoulder out of socket, "Yep, I'm new. It's nice to meet you too... What are you in detention for?"
Areli shrugged and sat on the desk across from Jade, crossing her legs, "I'm in ere cause they dress-coded me, technically I deserved it but ya know they don't have to be jerks about it, there's a ton of other lassie's here that dress way worse than me. I'm also here because the stupid dingbats are so blimey restrictive on power usage. I got tired of dem lassies being so controllin on our powers and started using dem on purpose to annoy the teache's. Sure, I get detention evory time I use dem, but they seriously need to get rid of the ding-dang rule because it makes no sense unless de kids are doin somethin bad with their powers. The lassie's are idiots I tell ya."
Jade listened and said softly, "Mine activates on its own, I can't control it and I either have to wait for it to deactivate, hold my breath so I pass out which stops it, or a friend helps me stop it."
Areli blinks before groaning and rubbing the bridge of her nose, "The blimey idiots are so stupid! They don't pay attention to things like that, there are quite a few students who switched ta different schools cause of them doing crap like dat. I stopped being a good little lassy and following their rules because of that. Technically, I can completely hide ma power, but I don't because of the stupid teachers. I don't let it free fully, but it tries to make a point." she explained, shrugging.
Jade listens quietly watching her, opening her mouth to say something before flinching, feeling her hair start to frizz up, glitching figures filling the room along with random radio voices, feeling her body start to act like a glitching robot, her eyes going wide as an unnaturally wide smile crossed her face. Her voice came out like it was over a radio, "G-g-great, the s-s-s-s-second I t-talk about i-i-it, t-this happens," she said trying to get her power to stop.
Areli blinked surprised, looking her up and down, "Woah there, that's a cool power! Here, I may be able to help, want me to try?"
Jade watched her uncertain, glitching and trying to get her power to deactivate, "Y-y-yes please, t-t-t-t-t-that would be greatly appreciated..." she said struggling to stop her power, her body still acting like a glitching robot.
Areli watched her before nodding and standing, "Alright, it may not work but hopefully it should. Usually when I use it I can use it to be calming to whoever I'm helping, unless I'm mad then it does the opposite." she explained, gently taking Jade's wrists, causing her pink hair to frizz up. She paused, closing her eyes before opening them, and smiled at Jade, "Let's Trip." she said.
At the same moment, a teacher had come in to talk to one of them about something and froze seeing both girl's powers as they were active. The room was covered in color, with rainbow designs covering the walls as they constantly changed. The colored patches had left Areli's body when her body activated.
Jade watched, her vision going blurry but she felt a forceful calm covering her body as she started to relax, her power deactivating. Once her power was deactivated, Areli smiled and deactivated hers, the colors disappearing from the room and reappearing on her skin in different patches this time.
"What were you two girls thinking?! Power usage is strictly prohibited, you both know this. Since this is a repeat offense to both of you, another week is being added to each of your detentions."
Cameron blinked and quickly tried to jump in, "Ms, no need for drastic measures! Jade's power activated on accident and Areli was simply helping her deactivate it! No harm done!"
The teacher frowns, "Cameron, this is non-negotiable. They broke school rules."
Jade frowned and said, "I can't physically control it, I'm sorry. Aleri was helping me deactivate it again, please do-"
"Ms. Heathcliff, if you are unable to control something you need to learn how instead of continuing to make these excuses. And Aleri is constantly breaking this rule and nothing we do will make her stop. So she has a month's worth of detention now and you have three weeks. Any more power usage and you'll have a month aswe-"
"What part of I can't control my power isn't clear? Mom and Dad have already told you I can't and you've been told multiple times after that that I can't control it, so why do you keep yelling at me for it?"
The teacher stared at Jade, "We are not yelling at you Jade, we are simply telling you that you HAVE to learn how to control the power. Every other child at this school can control their power, you should be able to control it, especially being 17 and-."
"I can't control it! It doesn't work with my body, I can't control when it starts, I barely have any control when it is activated, and I am unable to stop it until either someone helps me or I just wait it out! Why can't you teachers just listen and try to understand that?" Jade asked watching the teacher.
"And that's a month of detention for also back-talking a teacher. And you Cameron, you back-talk a teacher again on this and you will no longer be allowed to run detention." The teacher said sharply after staring at Jade before leaving.
Cameron frowns watching her leave before flipping her off, "I'm sorry both of you, I don't know why the teachers are so strict on that rule. However, Aleri, they do have a point. You make scenes and break a lot of dress code rules, and don't even attempt to control your power."
Aleri frowned and said, "Did ya even just see how they treated the lassey here? That's why I do it, to make a point to try and get the rule ended once and for all!"
Cameron sighs and says, "I know, I know Aleri, but it could just make it worse."
Jade watched and looked away, sitting in her seat, pulling her knees to her chest on the chair, and staring away frustrated.
The rest of the detention just passed with Aleri and Cameron talking, though Jade didn't pay attention, just choosing to stare off into space and try to figure out why the teachers were like that. As the bell rang, signaling school was over, Leppy popped into the classroom and bounced over, dragging her out of the room, "Let's go!" she said giggling, not seeming to have realized that something had happened during detention.
