A literary piece I wrote during our university's journalism press conference which landed me in 4th place. We were tasked to write a poem with a theme "something that you would read to a child" or something along those lines. The underlined words were random ones that the lecturer required us to use in our literary pieces.

"Growing Pains"

When I was a child,
I used to travel and wonder
To a place of harmony
and magical luster
Where the mornings are bright;
full of life and color
And the night does not frighten
with its beautiful stellar

With my lovely companion,
we would run and hustle
Then carefully stay still as
a butterfly lands on her whiskers
Whenever it rained,
we would jump on every puddle
I would dance and sing
to every pither and patter

Now that I'm older,
I could travel no longer
to that place that once brought me
joy and laughter
I had no one for company;
life has brought nothing but tragedy
I can no longer get away from this
miserable reality

So my child,
listen well and remember my advise
Use my words as a lantern;
let it be your guide
Let it linger in your heart;
don't let any zephyr blow it away
Be a child, remain a child
even if your world begins to decay
