[ STORYBROOKE ] [ PRESENT DAY ]
With her legs crossed beneath her, Fallon sat close to the edge of the docks and stared out at the water. She had found herself doing that a lot over the last few weeks. It was one of the few places in town where she could get away from everyone in her family, as they rarely ventured that close to the water. Killian was the only one that would, but even he had become wrapped up in trying to save the town as of late.
As she felt the breeze around her, Fallon began to wonder about all of the what ifs surrounding her family, mainly her father and what could've been if he was a better man that loved his children instead of using them. She sighed heavily and pulled her legs up to rest her chin on the top of her knees.
She had become so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't hear somebody approaching. She didn't even know anyone was there, until they sat down beside her. She looked up and smiled ever so slightly when she saw it was Lily.
"Your mother tells me you've been distant lately." Lily said.
Fallon shrugged her shoulders. "I just wanted time to myself, time away from finding the author." She sighed. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course."
"Do you ever think about your father?"
Such a simple question held so much weight. Lily didn't answer right away. She turned her head to look out at the water as she sighed heavily. She never wanted to admit that Brennan Jones was still on her mind, she never wanted to think about him but she did.
"Unfortunately, I do." Lily admitted. "Though I wish I didn't. He was an awful man. He does not deserve a moment of my time, and yet he plagues my mind almost every day." She looked back at Fallon. "Why do you ask?"
"Ever since Rumple was made to leave town, I've been thinking about our father. I've been thinking about how different things would be for us if he was a good man; and not the villain he turned out to be. I'm sure he loved me in his own twisted way, but power was always more important." Fallon replied.
Lily nodded her head. "There's no doubt things would've been a lot different if Peter had been a better father. There are a lot of things that never would have happened. Perhaps we wouldn't be sitting here today if he was. If Brennan Jones was a better man, a better father, I certainly wouldn't be sitting here today and neither would you."
[ ENCHANTED FOREST ] [ PAST ]
The hold of the ship was dark and smelt of cigarette smoke with a hint of dampness. Lily, only barely nine years old at the time, dragged her bare feet across the wooden floor boards as she searched for her father. Her brothers were above deck, no doubt being worked to the bone. They had been treated differently to Lily. Brennan had tried to convince Lily that wasn't true, but she wasn't stupid. Things happened to her that didn't happen to them. They never got the captain's special treatment or spent quality time with the ship mates.
