Feeling the warmth of the fire offered some comfort and calmness to Lily as she listened to Regina arguing with Cruella just a few feet behind her. They had allowed her to stay but for how long, Lily didn't know. For all she knew, they could turn on her at any given moment and the last thing she wanted to do was fight back. She had clawed her way out of the darkest place she had ever been in, and she didn't want to go back there.
She hated who she was when her humanity was turned off. She hated herself for what she did and how she treated people. She still had the occasional nightmare where she would relive the moment she had hurt Lorelai in an attempt to get to Athena. She had slowly worked past that and was trying to be better, but the silver coloured dagger was always going to serve as a permanent reminder that she could never be one of the good guys.
"You've been awfully quiet." Astrid said as she sat next to Lily on the floor. "I thought you'd be pretty vocal about the dog walker giving your wife a hard time."
"Regina is more than capable of taking care of herself." Lily replied.
"But you'd jump in there and defend her if the need arises."
"Of course."
Astrid smiled softly as she turned her head to face the flames. "Evander's a lot like you." She said. "I wondered where he got this strong-willed, protective personality from and then I met you." She turned her head back to Lily. "Thank you."
"For what?" Lily asked.
"For making sure he turned out to be one of the good ones."
The cabin door swung open as Cruella stepped outside, letting in a weak gust of wind that was somehow strong enough to blow the fire out. Lily glared in Cruella's direction as left the door open and ventured outside to find Ursula. She sighed and looked at Regina who shook her head as though she was silently telling Lily to behave.
Seconds later, Cruella returned with Ursula at her side. Both of them were wearing an evil smirk as their eyes landed on August, who was still tied up. Lily rolled her eyes and turned her head back around to stare into the now empty fireplace. Astrid stood up and pulled Lily onto her feet as everyone moved to stand where August could see them.
"I already told you...I don't know anything about this author." August said, his tone worried and pleading. Ursula picked up a knife and walked over to him. "Well..." She held the knife up to his neck. "Perhaps you could use a little incentive."
"Oh, that knife is not gonna make me remember something that I don't know." August said.
"Wait." Regina waved her hand and the knife magically appeared in her hand.
