[ STORYBROOKE ] [ PRESENT DAY ]
With her great-granddaughter on the warpath against her, Athena had to frequently change where she was hiding. She wasn't about to be beat by someone who, in her eyes, was less than her. Someone who was unworthy of her place on earth, someone like her great-granddaughter. Athena needed Lily's power in order to be unstoppable, and in order to get that power, she would have to kill Lily herself; but that was proving to be harder than she initially thought.
"You're not that great at hiding, you know?"
Athena spun around to find Ophelia standing just a few feet behind her. "If I can find you this easily, it'll only be a matter of time before Lilith does; and I highly doubt she's going to let you leave here alive." Ophelia added.
"Lilith isn't going to be the one who wins this battle, dear." Athena said. She sounded so confident but all Ophelia could do was laugh in her mother's face.
"Oh, Mother, you have no idea on what she truly is. There's no stopping somebody like her. She'd rip you to shreds without ever thinking about it." Ophelia said.
"She doesn't strike me as the type to hurt family." Athena said.
"Did that strike you before or after you murdered her son and made her watch?" Ophelia asked.
Athena didn't answer. She just stood there looking at her daughter. She had always assumed Ophelia would side with her, just as she always had. They were mother and daughter after all. But here Ophelia stood, apparently siding with her granddaughter that she had only known for a little over a year.
Evil isn't born, it's made. A saying that Ophelia always used to believe until she got to know her mother, and discovered what she was really like. That's when their relationship began to fall apart.
[ ENCHANTED FOREST ] [ PAST ]
Ophelia - now eight years old - giggled as she ran around the flower garden chasing a butterfly, all under the watchful eye of her grandmother, Valerie. She barely saw her mother's parents, and spent most of her time with her father and his family.
As the years went by, Athena appeared less and less interested in being a mother. Especially a mother to a child who carried weak magic that was controlled by the moon. Even when Adam denied it and tried to pretend as if everything was okay, Valerie knew he was lying. She could read minds and see the auras that surrounded everyone. Adam's was either blue in sadness or red in anger. The only other colour she ever saw it in was orange, and that was when he had Ophelia close by.
