As she leaned against the doorframe to the living room, Fallon kept her arms folded as she watched Lorelai read the same page in the book she held the tenth time. She couldn't work out why somebody would need to read the same page over and over again. She wanted to walk over to her aunt to peek at whatever she was reading, but Lorelai had started to become more paranoid, more jumpy as of late, so Fallon decided to keep her distance.
Whatever it was that had spooked her aunt, Fallon wanted no part in it. She frowned slightly as Lorelai began to read the page for the eleventh time; it was as though she was staring at a puzzle that was missing a piece and she was trying to find it. It was only when Lorelai came to a freezing stillness that Fallon pushed herself off the door frame, and realisation washed over her. "Aunt Lori?" She said, her voice quiet.
For a moment, Lorelai continued to stare down at the open book in her lap. She didn't move, didn't flinch, didn't even look like she was breathing for a few seconds. But then she sharply gasped and her head shot up. Still, she didn't utter a word. She stared directly ahead in a way that made Fallon shift uncomfortably.
"Aunt Lori." Fallon repeated herself, only her voice was firmer and louder this time.
Still, Lorelai didn't turn around and she continued to stare straight ahead. Fallon walked further into the room, though her footsteps remained cautious. She stood in front of Lorelai, her frown softening away to almost nothing as she stared at Lorelai's eyes. Her piercing blue eyes had been replaced with a haunting shade of white.
Fallon had always been aware of her aunt's powers. She had always been aware that while Lorelai was having a vision, whether it be good or bad, her eyes would go white. She had heard tales from her grandmother and had read about it in a book once, but somehow, it seemed more chilling in person. She began to reach out to touch Lorelai's shoulder, but inches away, she hesitated and pulled her hand back. She stood to the side patiently waiting for her aunt to say something, anything, but she didn't.
Instead, Lorelai's eyes snapped shut and when they reopened a moment later, her eyes looked normal again as if nothing had happened. She blinked and turned her head to look at Fallon. "When did you get here?" She asked.
"About five minutes ago." Fallon answered, moving to sit beside her aunt. "I was going to ask if you had heard anything from Grandma, but I found you reading that book." She motioned to the book that still sat neatly in Lorelai's lap. "It's gotta be pretty interesting because you read the same page like ten times."
"I'm not sure this is something you want to know about." Lorelai answered honestly.
