chapter 26

THE TWO ENTERED the lodge, with Five leading. He approached the front table, startling a blonde woman who was spelling out 'Welcome Wisconsin Polka Association 1982' on a black board in white letters. Edylenne glanced around the lodge, trying to find a way to the place they could find The Board.

The woman exclaimed, smiling, "You snuck up on me there!" She looked between the two, continuing, "If you're looking for the cookies, we don't put them out until three."

"I can hardly wait. Uh, do you happen to know where the Midwest Soybean Society is meeting?" Five asked, with no emotion in his voice, his eyes scanning the room.

"Sure do. Muskellunge Banquet Room." The woman responded, looking over her shoulder, while gesturing over to a room, with Five's eyes catching the sight of a vending machine. "You two must be looking for your mom? She in the convention?" The woman asked as Five reached into his pocket for money, but suddenly stopped. He looked at the woman, and so did Edylenne, as if they were offended.

"Uh, yeah." Edylenne awkwardly said, before grabbing Five's arm, trying to stop a smile from forming on her lips. "Thanks." She grabbed Five's arm and dragged him away, walking towards the vending machine.

"You have money?" Five asked as Edylenne took the wallet from the rich man she stole from. She opened the wallet, and found exactly a dollar in quarters. She gave them to Five, and he entered them into the machine. "You want something?"

"No, I hope Elliot has something cooked up at home. And a good cup of coffee would be really nice right now." Edylenne responded, watching Five press the buttons for a Fudge Nutter.

The two watched as the Fudge Nutter got stuck, which made Five hit the side of the machine, trying to get it to budge. He pressed the buttons multiple times to try to get it to get out, but it didn't work.

Edylenne took a step back as he started hitting the machine, his face practically up against the glass.

"Five." Edylenne sighed, watching her childish husband fight a machine.

"Stupid mother Fudge Nutter!" He shouted at the machine, ignoring his wife.

"What are you, six years old?" She asked, getting a glare from Five before he resumed to trying to break the machine.

"Funking Fudge Nutter!" He shouted again. He shook the machine a few more times, before Edylenne hesitated to walk away. Eventually, Five kicked the glass, cracking it in the middle.

"Seriously?" She asked.

Five scratched the back of his head. "On second thought, a cup of coffee would be nice." He smirked at her, passing her and walking to the room, before Edylenne turned around and followed closely behind.

Five's finger swiped across a cake that was on a table, that must've been set out for the guests. He licked the white frosting off his finger, before he saw an axe propped on the wall. There was a set of doors, which had the words, "Muskellunge Banquet Room."

Five looked over his shoulder, to see his wife get relatively close, their faces inches apart. He towered over her, before she said, "Ready?" He smirked at her, and looked up at the doors in front of them.
